Summary
Period: 19th to 2nd of February, 2015
Bundles: Year of the Dragon, Year of the Serpent, Year of the Horse, Year of the Goat, Year of the Monkey and 2017 Lunar Revel Mega
Note: the bundles reduce their prices depending on which content you already own. In case you don’t own a champion in a skin bundle the price rises by the champion’s price.
Overview
The Year of the Rooster is upon us and spirits from years past also return. The monkey, goat, horse, serpent, and dragon bundles make an apparition as well as the few legacy Lunar Revel skins that have been absent. The bundles discounts tend to be meagre which added to the fact that many of the skins can be purchased at regular sales means that the offers aren’t always that good. Nevertheless, it may be worth giving the bundles a look to see if there’s anything of interest. If you own some of the non-legacy skins then the bundles can be a way of getting a discount on legacy content. Just don’t expect any great savings.
There’s also the Zodiac Protector’s bundle, a bundle of ward skins. Even though most of the skins are legacy, except for one, and the discount isn’t bad, 50% off, it’s a niche offering. If ward skin aren’t your thing then there’s nothing to see.
Year of the Dragon
Discount: 25%
Total Price: 7328 -> 5496 RP
Skins’ Price: 3898 -> 2924 RP
This bundle offers regular skins that have been on sale at 50% during the year. Given the small discount and absence of any extras the set struggles to be tempting. It’s merely a collection of skins with a subtle discount. It could be an option to get both champions and skins for a bit less but with a bit of patience a lot of RP can be saved. Truth be told, there’s little reason to consider this bundle a good option; unless patience simply isn’t you thing.
Year of the Snake
Discount: 25%
Total Price: 9016 -> 6762 RP
Skins’ Price: 5623 -> 4217 RP
This set of skins has great quality despite the Warring Kingdoms ones being somewhat overpriced. If you are after the skins 25% isn’t tempting enough. Besides, these aren’t legacy skins so they can be purchased during a regular sale. They have and will be offered again at a lower price so this bundle appeals only if you can’t wait. Still, consider that as these skins aren’t legacy you may be better off waiting for regular sales.
Year of the Horse
Discount: 15%
Total Price: 5642 -> 4796 RP
Skins’ Price: 3297 -> 2803 RP
With such a small discount there isn’t much temptation to acquire this bundle. It’s worth remembering that Lunar Goddess Diana is a regular skin and so it’ll eventually reach a discount of 50% on sale; again. If you do own it then it’s a way of getting a better price for the legacy skins. The bundles are flexible so, if you are looking to save RP, the bundle has some interest; in the right circumstances. If not, then the bundle doesn’t look like such a great option.
Year of the Goat
Discount: 15%
Total Price: 5850 -> 4973 RP
Skins’ Price: 3297 -> 2803 RP
As a mere convenience to catch all the 2015 Lunar Revel skins in one go this bundle doesn’t have much to attract buyers. None of these skins are legacy so they’ll arrive at a sale sooner or later; they have in the past in fact. Therefore, if you don’t mind waiting you can save a good amount of RP. With no icon or ward to offer there’s no additional incentive to get the bundle. The only reason would be if you don’t have the patience to wait for the better discounts.
Year of the Monkey
Discount: 15%
Total Price: 6027 -> 5115 RP
Skins’ Price: 3672 -> 3122 RP
While these skins aren’t great they aren’t bad by any means. They have their distinct appeal but having a regular skin at such a paltry discount doesn’t help the bundle. If you do own Radiant Wukong then the bundle can save some RP in the legacy skins. If not then you’d be paying more than necessary. If patience isn’t you thing it may be a good enough offer. Nevertheless, it’s far from the ideal way if you want to save RP; which the bundles should help with.
Year of the Rooster
Discount: 0%
Legacy Wards: Crest of the Rooster (1 RP)
Legacy Icons: Jade Warrior, Jade Emperor and Jade Demon
Total Price: 6458 RP (champions discounted by 25%)
Skins’ Price: 4801 RP
No discount on the skins but a 25% off the champions, which are better unlocked with IP, and a ward skin at just 1 RP. Truth be told, while the skins aren’t bad they don’t realise the fantastic concepts they have in an impressive way. While next year won’t see this content at a much lower price there’s little reason to consider the bundle unless you like the three skins. If you do, you get a few extras of subjective value.
2017 Lunar Revel Mega
Discount: 50%
Legacy Wards: Gong, Banner of the Serpent, Lantern of the Serpent, Banner of the Horse, Rising Dawn
Regular Wards: Firecracker
Total Price: 36814 -> 18407 RP
Skins’ Price: 23628 -> 11814 RP
A huge bundle including all previous Lunar Revel content at a 50% discount is something that shouldn’t be ignored. The problem arises because of the variety: getting a good discount also means getting skins that you may not like. The fact that the quality of the skins is also variable doesn’t help matters. While there are some great skins there are other that are just alright and often overpriced for what they offer.
Therefore, if you like all of the skins it’s a great way of filling any Lunar Revel gaps. You just have to remember that the majority of the skins can go on regular sales, and most already have, so if there’s just a few you like it’s better to wait. For the legacy completionist it could be an interesting option; provided that the regular content is of interest.
