Introduction: The Army of Clay
The palace was pale under the bright moonlight. The warriors reached from the east the outer wall and stood in front of the obstacle. “Too high to climb.” “I can get over it.” “And what about the rest of us?” The sound was like a blast, explosive, but there was nothing of the sort, not literally. It was a punch with explosive effect. “Now we have a door.” said the warrior with the metal fists and the smirk. “You are full of subtlety.” “I get bored easily.” They walked through the hole and stuck to the shadows. It was evident that guards would come to investigate. The warrior with the daggers stayed a few steps behind.
The guards disappeared as soon as they stepped into a shadow. She moved too fast, her daggers too precise for them to even realise what was happening. She rejoined the others. “That’s subtlety.” she said balancing a dagger on her finger. “I’ll keep it in mind.” she answered clenching a fist. They reached the main building though a seldom used passage to the west. It was practically a secret due to people preferring more lavish entrances but they were careful in case they encountered any unexpected company.
The Wraith shone in the darkness imitating the pale Moon outside. She looked at them with mystical eyes and they stared for a second. “This way.” she led and they followed. “The Emperor is with the Prince, I think he has finally turned him.” “If he does there’s no stopping this cursed army.” “Not an endless army, not even us, nothing can.” The throne room was empty, they went behind the throne and through the small door it concealed. The room behind was a ceremonial chamber, deceptively large and tall. The Emperor was busy conjuring more soldiers of clay and the Prince turned to look at them. There weren’t human eyes that lay in those sockets.
The warrior with the spear let out a scream and charged forward. The Prince wasn’t what he once wase: he was slower but also stronger and impossible to stop. Every wound was sealed in clay, further turning him into a puppet for the Emperor. “Stop, you are helping turn him.” But he couldn’t, if the Prince didn’t concentrate on him he would attack the rest and they had an army and a mad Emperor to take care of. Between devastating punches and surgical bladework they advanced towards the Emperor but the soldiers kept coming, they were being overrun.
The Wraith was close enough to the Emperor, though. She imprisoned him in a glowing pillar and the ground around him started to crack. It consumed the soldiers he summoned but there were too many to handle already. She protected herself in a magical globe and chained the Emperor to herself. Both ascended into the night sky towards the Moon. When they were lost in the sky, the Prince started bleeding normally and profusely. It was just a single wound but this one was unsealed by the cursed clay. The Prince collapsed and the warriors took him to his chamber and called the royal doctor.
With some luck the Prince would recover and remember nothing about this night. That is, unless the Emperor were to return, wherever the Wraith had taken him. They did think they had seen the Wraith through the window when the Prince was being tended to but they could’ve been mistaken. They all would’ve had to be mistaken because they all saw her and heard a whisper in the night: “Beware the chains of the Moon.” They looked towards the Moon and it seemed like there was a new crater in it. Of course, they ought to consult an expert to be sure. It did seem that the Moon had turned a bit darker, however.
