Introduction: Keen Eye
The blade glows red in her hand, it matches her visor, but she doesn’t care about any of that. The problem is that there’s a fire out of control in the building in front of her. Why did they dispatch her to handle it? She’s no fire-fighter, the only part that applies comes after the fire. She would’ve shrugged but that wouldn’t contribute to the solution. If anything, she was practical. She had all the maps and schematics necessary in her memory so there was no reason why the building’s automatic system wasn’t taking care of the fire. Perhaps it was just bad luck?
It hurt a little not being human enough to appreciate the sarcasm; given her week. Her brain kept turning towards the problem at hand and it didn’t seem to have a simple solution. The fire kept roaring, the building burned like paper and with people safely outside her presence was of dubious relevance. She looked at her sword, memories of her training barely touched her consciousness as her mind returned to processing more potential solutions. Short of cutting things fast and precisely she wasn’t going to be of much help so unless the building collapsed she didn’t think she could do much.
She had to think that; with her luck. The building, albeit predictably, started to collapse and her mind instantaneously analysed it like a simple enemy. She found the weak spots, the way to cut, the shorter path to get a clean cut between spots and the way to slash so that it would collapse on itself. It took her thirty-two seconds and she liked seeing that number as her time: it was four exact bytes. The building fell without grace but it was a good job and, it seemed, a good show to the many witnesses, bystanders and journalists accumulated all around. It seemed like the ideal time to leave. She didn’t want questions. With her mind free of her mission she could try to dig for those memories that had insinuated themselves before; happy memories would improve her week.
