Introduction: To New Heights
“It was a most magnificent adventure. Just imagine me, in front of a gigantic monster and I ask: ‘Would you mind if I smoke?” The guests laughed at the Esquire’s ingenuity, even if they didn’t see it. It was a matter of tall tales and higher pretences. The night continued with elevated heights until fatigue, physical or mental, managed to drive away most of the guests. Only the most dedicated to the Esquire remained as well as the man himself. By the time dawn broke only he remained, placidly resting on an armchair. Half asleep, he was sure he wasn’t actually alone in the room.
He opened his eyes and looked around. The room seemed quite empty but there was a strange feeling. It must’ve been that gifted liqueur he opened. You can’t trust present’s quality and he’s only used to the best. “Obvious.” he agreed with himself. “If you say so.” The feminine voice had a strange, dark feel. “Perhaps it’s not so obvious.” It was a feminine voice again but a different one, with a powerful echo behind it. “I think it’s time we get this over with.” The third voice was calm and a bit harsh. He looked around and noticed the trio of women. In other circumstances he would’ve been delighted by the company.
This time, he was uncomfortable and a bit agitated. He composed himself, obviously, and addressed the ladies: “Welcome but I fear that you are a bit late to the party.” They simply looked at him, had he any need for escape there wasn’t much room for that. Why was he thinking that? Why would he? “May I help you?” It was at this moment that his eyes started to notice that the ladies weren’t dressed for a party. In fact, you could say that they weren’t conventional in any sense of the world. The Esquire swallowed and stood up. “I’m sorry but I have to go.” “Yes you will.” “Follow.” “It’s time you go as far as your imagination takes you.”
