Introduction: A Chase Snap
“The blade with the feathers on top.” Just like always, somebody had to have seen something. “I’ll find you.” She scoured the area and found something: a footprint. It was a familiar foot from someone too nosey and opportunistic to let any chance go. This time it could kill him but he probably didn’t care. She did; at least until he shared his knowledge with her. There were some places he used to frequent but she reasoned that if the information was valuable enough he should be trying to sell it as soon as possible. For that, only one place: The Sorceress bar.
It was a colourful place, in many ways. People made way to let her pass while her eyes locked on her target. It wasn’t her uniform, she didn’t wear the usual clothing, it was the suit which everyone associated with trouble. For someone with a big secret he always had a big mouth. That probably explained why he always stayed as a pickpocket no matter if gold bars fell on his lap. “Hello, rat, we have to talk.” He tried to run but her cybernetic gauntlets had him firmly by the tail. A little more pressure and his effort became redirected at resisting the pain.
“I know nothing. You can’t make me talk.” “Yes I can.” They looked at each other: “You don’t want that. Talk.” “I only saw him afterwards he immediately disappeared in a puff of smoke.” She raised an eyebrow. “Really, but I snapped a photo with my phone!” “How convenient.” “I’m not the smartest there is but I have my moments.” He said with a smirk and then sent her a copy of the photo. “You’ll give me some time to finish this.” “How much?” “You’ll know.” she released the tail. A few had realised what it all was about and offers started pouring. “Sounds like you’ll be busy deciding on your best choice. Take your time.” The rat looked left and right at rising figures and swallowed.
The street cameras had trouble following the jester; for lack of a more appropriate term. He appeared and disappeared from sight magically. Still, no one is invisible in this city and the alley leading to a dark, dank, abandoned house was evocative enough. Inside the smell of putrid matter could’ve turned even the strongest stomachs; good thing she hadn’t had breakfast yet. The Moon appeared through a tall window and in a cloud of smoke appeared a silhouette she recognised. The mask with a fixed smile stared at her and she charged. The decoy exploded in hundreds of daggers which failed at scratching the special fabric of her suit. He had escaped again. “Well played but now I know how you look and how you act. It’s only a matter of time.”
