Introduction: Miss the Queen
“Where is the Queen?” The guards are speechless with trembling faces in front of the arrived guest. “I’ll find her myself.” The lady slithers away from the throne room and asks the servants of the castle: no one has a proper answer. By now the idea that they could be scared of her ophidious nature can be safely discarded. With her inquiries being of little use she goes outside and finds a martial artist training in the garden. The war sunlight caresses her scales and eases her digestion but she can’t rest now. She approaches the man, “Do you know where the Queen is?” “I have not seen her. I’ve been asked to wait but I sense that something is amiss.” Without much in the way of discussion they both agree to leave to investigate such an unusual occurrence.
In the castle there’s no trace of the Queen so they decide to cross the moat and venture into town. As it would befit such guests commoners look with either surprise or distrust and yet everybody is useless in unravelling the mystery. The visit to a specific shop changes things. An explosion is heard behind a closed door and a girl emerges with ash on her face. “What can I do for you? If you need explosions I have the best rockets to make the biggest you can imagine and more!” “We are looking for the Queen.” “She asked for a special bundle of rockets for this very afternoon but nobody has come yet to pick them up. Is there something wrong?” They explain the situation and the girl joins the party of investigators; she isn’t going to let her best customer disappear like that. With rocket launcher in hand she leaves shop and they venture outside city borders.
As they advance into the countryside they notice the earth ravaged, cracked and smashed in unnatural ways. That does look like the Queen in a bad mood but where does it lead? The martial artist hears a sound in the forest and they dash forward. There, trees fly as the Queen of Diamonds fends off trolls that phase in and out of time. They appear, flicker and disappear to reappear again in a different, nearby, position. They are incredibly difficult to catch with the naked eye, let alone make of them a target. Without anything in the way of invitation an eager someone propels herself with a rocket towards the fray and sends handfuls of trolls flying with the expansive explosions of her rockets.
The others don’t hesitate in joining the battle. Poison spreads on the ground and wherever trolls appear they fall victim to its effects and the lethal fangs they emerge from. Her petrifying gaze also makes them easier targets for the Queen’s barrage of dark magic. The martial artist doesn’t rely on such esoterical skills. He simply stands relaxed and breaks bones and sinew just as trolls phase into existence around him. He senses their very beings and predicts with supernatural accuracy their every move. In a few moments the trolls stop appearing. The Queen can be escorted back to the safety of the castle but then a few questions remain: how did she get to the forest and who’s behind this battle beyond time?
