Introduction: Asylum of Light
“Look! The city! It’s floating!” “Not really, look around: it’s part of the mountain.” “Great.” “Let’s go, we must make it to the city before dusk.” The families kept walking in a procession towards the city in the mountains. Its buildings marvelled young and old alike. They seemed to hang from the sides of the mountain, with folds in the walls, towers that ended in wings and vertical rings interspersed between buildings. The architecture was strange but also it gave a peaceful, heavenly feel to the people.
The Sun was on its way down when they finally entered through a gate into the city. Guards in golden armour and white clothes were waiting and a handful directed them towards a building near one of the rings. They left their things and hurried to the ring as instructed. They stood in front of the ring and the Sun started to appear through it: they made it just in time. They closed their eyes and bathed in the sunlight. They felt the warmth of the Sun, the energy and the youth. They opened their eyes and barely recognised each other.
Their wounds had healed, their skin smoothed, they hair vividly coloured again. They returned to the building, grabbed their things and took a place in the building. There were sections, apartments in the building for each family to live. The children went to school, the parents learnt knew skills and found jobs. They had everything they could want ii the city and a long life to enjoy it. They just couldn’t leave, never. Without the Sun recharging them they would fade away. Still, it was a good life. Much better than the ravaged wasteland they had escaped, better than the war.
