Introduction: Scope and Trigger
“Sights on target.” The fingers slide carefully across the trigger. They caress the surface with delicacy savouring the moment. They press and the bullet is released with enthusiasm. Metal is pierced, then follows the organic matter. The hunter places her rifle on her shoulder and approaches the remnants of her former target. She looks down to the watermelon with the helmet by its side. “You surely couldn’t resist it, eh?” She picks the helmet up, it’s a commando and yet the hole is clean with perfect penetration through the alloy. “I’m definitely keeping this toy.”
The Captain wasn’t happy and his frown seemed mirrored by his pronounced whiskers. “Do we really need her?” The Constable smiled, more hiding behind his teeth than seeing any fun in the whole arrangement. It was one of those times when he wished to know how to become invisible; like those pesky thieves they could never catch for good. “Send her in.” She entered the office in her full hunter gear which was fitting for the job but not the situation; it did show her eagerness, though. “So, who should I shoot?”
“As you know, we have a situation.” “Don’t worry, I know the deal.” She regretted being unable to have some time off work for her hobbies, which weren’t too far from work, but there was a slight redemption: she could try her newest acquisition. The swordsmaster parried bullets with inhuman reflexes and speed. The set of machineguns seemed to have unlimited ammo but, in actuality, there was someone feeding them. “Sights on target.” She looked through the scope to the young girl with the big grin. Her finger caressed the trigger and she shot.
The remote control exploded in the hand of the girl. The sniper’s precision was so keen that the bullet only hit the upper part making the structure of the remote collapse without harming the girl. The girl did understand the message well enough and disappeared before the smoke from the explosions she set on her hideout were gone. The Captain, as always, was half satisfied. “Glad that’s over but it’s a pity that she got away. Good job anyway. We have her description so she won’t be able to hide for long.” “I very much doubt she has any plans of making herself scarce. No worries, I have a friend who would like to have some words with her.”
