Introduction: Metal Against Metal
“There, on the roof!” They ducked and took cover behind a dumpster. The bin absorbed the bullets but their luck depended on what and how much people had wasted. As the most cynical of the three would say: “they wasted enough.” In spite of his gleaming armour the cyborg was nervously trying to cover his entire, large, frame; which didn’t leave much room to his companions. “What’s the problem with you? Go out there and charge: you’re bullet-proof.” “But it’d scratch all the polished plates. Do you know how long it takes to look this good?” “I’ll be the decoy then.” “I’ll charge then.” “Fine, I’ll support from here.” What passed the mind of the cyborg’s companions is better omitted.
The martial artist wasn’t exactly fast but he was nimble. As a human target he was a real nightmare and the mercenary knew it well after a few minutes. So, no matter how clear a shot he became he was ignored in favour of the warrior. While her armour wasn’t heavy she wasn’t exactly able to make sudden movements. She trained differently and, thankfully, her shield held against the bullets. Some thought her choice of simple metal as protection somewhat démodé but she liked its simple effectiveness and ease of repairs. From the look of things, she would need to make vast repairs.
Seeing the situation the martial artist ran inside the building and hopped stairs to the top. On the roof he heard the gunslinger still peppering the warrior’s shield. He advanced in a short sprint the culminated in a flying kick that sent the mercenary flying into the air. However, he was prepared. The rope attached to his waist let him hit the wall with both feet and descend. Faster than the martial artist could react he was already on the floor. The warrior had taken cover and wasn’t visible but he knew where the cyborg was. He leaped over the dumpster and spread bullets.
Metal clanked against the cyborg’s body and his spear deflected a few bullets dangerously close to the mercenary. He decided that future shots would be better and more precisely aimed. He faced the cyborg but before he could find a weak spot within plates a shield barged him to the ground. The slab of metal then fell over him and, finally, a good smash knocked him out. The warrior smiled at the cyborg: “Now you owe me a new shield and it better be top-notch quality; the expensive ones.” “Those things can’t ever be too expensive.” “You’ll see.” remarked the just arrived, panting, martial artist. “Now, you carry this guy to cash the reward. You should do some activity if you want your share too.” The cyborg didn’t like the request but complied. Perhaps the shield needed repairs but the sword was still in pristine condition and she has made it quite obvious.
