Introduction: To Dance a Trail
“That way, let’s go.” They followed the trail of poison, from a distance. It was obvious that they were being compelled to chase the man but, if they were going to do it, it would be on their terms. The slayer of dragons stopped by the side of the hunter of seas and looked at him. He seemed to perceive the ambiance differently; smelling and hearing. Surely, some sort of technique to feel at ease in strange surroundings. His approach was much simpler: see the enemy, jump and stab. It always worked but he wasn’t so blunt to say that a fresh perspective wouldn’t be useful.
Without warning the hunter moved to a side and looked behind. He was just in time to see the man rushing towards him, poison trail behind, whom grabbed him and threw his body behind like deadweight. He coughed while landing and tried to roll away from the toxic fumes. The slayer reacted: ignoring the poison, he jumped on the man and stabbed repeatedly with his spear. It was enough to horribly mutilate any living being; except an augmented one. The man laughed and simply ran away, leaving the foul mist for the slayer to choke in.
The slayer rolled to a side and looked at the hunter. He was on his feet but coughed a little. “Perhaps I should get one of those helmets you are so keen on wearing.” “They make me look good.” “That explains why you never take them off.” They both looked at the dissipating trail of poison and followed again. Next time they would be better prepared, they said to themselves. At any rate, this was a dance they were going to see to its end. Because they would be the only ones left standing.
