Introduction: Across the Sky
The swords swirled around her a couple of times before gathering behind her back, one close to the other as if they were one. They floated behind her, carefully keeping their position, and she walked away from the wooden dummies: her training was over for the day. After a good bath and meal she wanted to walk around the forest and check on the cascade nearby. You could always find something new there because the water always carried surprises. This time it was no different but the surprise came from the sky.
She stared at the blue sky as the white fireball rushed across it. It crashed a good distance away from the temple with a sound that could only be described as brutal. She rushed to the temple but she didn’t need to explain herself because they had seen the meteor. At least, that’s how most agreed to call it. Preparations started immediately for an expedition to check on the meteor. The following day the weather was great and they got there in no time. They didn’t know exactly what it was but it seemed to be some sort of transport in the crater.
The approached slowly and a demon appeared. Engulfed in flames it lashed with a burning lasso. The swords rotated around her and cut the rope in tiny pieces. The flames remained in the same place as if the rope was still there and soon the rope reformed. Behind them they heard movement and a spear flew right past her to lodge itself on the demon’s shoulder. A few more came as well as a trio of warriors in strange clothes charged. The demon didn’t mind the extra company. In fact, it relished it: “Come, I will add you all to my collection.”
With dancing swords, spears, slashes and smashes the demon started to lose ground but he wasn’t getting tired, they were. “I have an idea: the cell.” “It could work.” “I’ll lead it in.” The door to the transport opened and they arranged so that the demon would be surrounded and walking in. Once inside, a spear was thrown into the demon’s torso, flames erupting like blood. The biggest of the strange warriors grabbed it and pushed, impaling the demon. The sword flew around and cut its limbs. With a toss it was thrown, in pieces, inside an opening which was sealed with glowing bars of light.
“Thanks for the help.” “Yes, this thing attacked as soon as we got out of the ship.” “We were no match for it but with your help it shouldn’t bother us anymore.” The people talked strange, they spoke a strange dialect but from an insignia on their chest a voice came which they could understand. “Not at all. We are glad to help. This demon has assailed these lands for centuries. We thank you for imprisoning him.” There was an awkward pause in the dialogue as each group of warriors looked at each other with curiosity. “We should celebrate the victory.” “You are welcome in our temple. You can rest there and tell us about your travels.” “Sounds like a great idea.” “Yes, the demon doesn’t look like friendly company anyway.” “Let’s go before you take more mortal stabs at humour.”
