What happens when overwhelming magic meets unequalled skill? Nothing good if those involved aren’t mindful of their own power. Is the ability to shoot an arrow in the blink of an eye any less impressive than the power to twist earth and soul? What good is it to be able to heal with a simple touch what another can break with a swift strike? It could be said that these were legends. Even in the realm of imagination, they met. Four winds blowing in cardinally opposite directions. Would they make a whole that was bigger than themselves or would it all collapse into chaos?
According to what is said, there was a bit of the two. When initially confronted the prospect of seeing equals in a different profession didn’t bode well for the future of the enterprise. They hadn’t actually been called to unite in a quest for honour and glory but none of them could ignore the plight for help in the Night Lands. How could they? Whether it was the challenge or the prospect of rewards the idea was enticing. Many flocked there and were exterminated like moths. They saw different; they already had their ultimate prize. Now, it was time to use it for something worthwhile.
As it is well known, the Night Lands remain suitable for such a moniker. While they are more habitable now and people don’t disappear mysteriously at any moment, the night still is a time that asks for good care. Whatever great evil lurks in the darkness of the forests still lives there. Thanks to these four legends, according to what is told by our elders, it doesn’t dare venture beyond the safety of its wood lair; for the most part. What fool blinded by ego would venture into the streets at night, anyway?
There is no keen arrow to defy the blade, there’s no blow to cripple the claw, there’s no chain to restrain the darkness and no hand to cure the soul. It was too long ago and even their memory is little more than a tale. They are needed again and if they could hear they would heed our call. They can’t but you can help this message get to them. The Night Lands need the four heroes again. Fleet feet and keen eyes, we hope you can reach them before is too late. Our fate is in your hands messenger. We just hope these words reach you well.
