Sale Overview: August Rings in New Bundles – StrategyZero
Aug 122013

Flexible Cost Bundles
August’s Flexible Cost Bundles

Summary

Period: 12th to 19th of August, 2013
Bundles: Gank City, Dunkmaster, Under the Sea and The Buddy System Buff
Note: the bundles reduce their prices depending on which content you already own. In case you don’t own a champion in a skin bundle the price rises by the champion’s price.

The August bundles offer a varied amount of champions and skins; in one case just champions. The discounts are also diverse yet the whole content doesn’t always feel like a satisfying package. Let’s give them a look, one by one, and see what’s available.

Overview

Gank City Bundle

Discount: 25%
Total Price: 4300 RP
Discounted Price: 3225 RP

As a collection of champions this bundle is rather complete: it offers both AD and AP based champions with varying degrees of tankiness; though they are all usually on the tanky side. Regardless, there surely is variety. However, with such a low discount one can very well wonder what’s the advantage in getting them all together instead of waiting for regular champion sales.

This is particularly notable as both Nasus and Xin Zhao don’t have such a high IP price; which makes purchasing them with RP less than ideal. Therefore, unless you have a very specific reason to want this champions together this bundle doesn’t offer much of an advantage over regular methods of unlocking champions.

Dunkmaster Bundle

Discount: 30%
Total Price: 6130 -> 4291 RP
Skins’ Price: 3300 -> 2310 RP

This bundle has a nice set of skins but the discount applied can feel a bit low. However, the appeal of the skins can make the bundle worth considering if you are a dedicated fan of these champions. You can always wait for a regular sale and benefit from a 50% discount but, if you want them now, this bundle is hardly a bad option. Just be mindful that not waiting for regular sales means a higher price.

Under the Sea

Discount: 50%
Total Price: 7370 -> 3685 RP
Skins’ Price: 3740 -> 1870 RP

In spite of Scuba Gragas being a legacy skin and the generous discount this bundle benefits from the skins aren’t all very attractive; especially, the aforementioned and Crabgot. They both surely have their fans but they aren’t for everyone. In the end, the other skins are actually quite nice so if you actually like Scuba Gragas and Crabgot it could be worth a purchase.

The Buddy System Buff

Discount: 50%

The final bundle offers a varied selection of skins but the true highlight undoubtedly is Headhunter Nidalee. Spooky Gangplank is also a nice choice but the others, for one reason or another, fail to stand out. If your mind is solely on Nidalee then it’s better to wait for a regular sale or even buy Headhunter alone; you’ll save money that way. In case the other skins appeal to you then the bundle can be worthwhile. Just be sure that you equally like all skins lest you purchase something you won’t use.

  1. Hi Zero,

    Good work as always. I will be very interested in your review of the new Janna skin. Do you have any info on when Lucian will be coming out?

    The question that I have for you revolves around the Dunkmaster bundle. I already have the Jarvan skin so my main concern is about the other 2 skins. You have both Neon strike Vi and Woad king Darius as highly rated if not recommended skins and this attracts my attention. Do you think either one is likely to go on sale for 50% off before the end of the year. I cannot recall ever having seen a 50% off sale for either one. If it was a few months Id probably wait but if you think it will be a year or more till we see them on sale then 30% off seems pretty good.

    How long till we see a real sale on them ?

    Also its interesting to see Scuba gragas included in a bundle and would you hint at a suggestion that legacy skins will start to be included in bundle packs rather than post thanksgiving sales or will riot do both ?

    Do you have thoughts about the fact that Lollipoppy was released on the Turkish server and it was supposed to be retired and never come back. I suppose if someone wanted it badly enough they could pay for a transfer to the Turkish server and then pay for another transfer back. Are these skins really “retired” or just retired in North America. Seems wrong that Turkey can buy them and we cannot.

    • So far, there doesn’t seem to be any clear information on Lucian’s release; unless something was mentioned somewhere at the League of Legends’ forums.

      Neon Strike Vi should be going on sale sometime soon because it was released by the end of last year. Unfortunately, Woad King Darius is rather recent so it could take a long while to go on sale. We can’t be more specific due to the unpredictable nature of sales. If you really want the skins now then 30% off is not a bad discount. Yet, if you aren’t in such a rush you could wait to save some RP: 195.5 per skin, 391 RP in total; almost half the price of a 975 RP skin, 487 RP.

      Legacy skins are retired skins that can return at any time so it’s possible that Riot could start making them appear in bundles regularly. If that means the end of the yearly Legacy Vault Sale we can’t say but it would be a disappointment if that were the case.

      Lollipoppy available in Turkey. Something similar happened in the Garena server with limited skins: they were available for purchase for a limited time. The reasoning was that this server never had a chance to buy them so they were offering them at that time; as a red stated. Strangely, that hasn’t happened for all servers.
      You could transfer back and forth to the Turkish server to buy it but one should wonder how much a limited skin is really worth. Maybe a legendary or even ultimate skin would be a better investment considering the price of transfers.
      Technically, limited skins are retired to never be sold again. Regardless, it seems that Riot is not really strict with such a policy. You can check old news on the Garena server for the limited skins’ sale for further proof.
      At any rate, it would be nice if limited skins were given as rewards in promotions similar to this one. After all, Riot said they wouldn’t be sold again, not awarded.

  2. Thanks Zero,

    Thats a good tip. Is the Garena promotion still active and can it be used on the North American server.

    Their website confuses me.

    • Unfortunately, that promotion was held during 2011. Besides, the Garena server seems to work differently to the other ones as it isn’t operated directly by Riot. Apparently, they have a license for League of Legends. We aren’t sure about the details as that might involve Tencent and other corporate stuff. It is, indeed, a bit confusing.
