Introduction: The Legionaries
The army of robots marches with precise steps. They trample over flowers, crops and ruins without regard: they only see a path ahead. The Legion stand put in place. They wait, calmly, as the robots advance. They notice them, identify them as an obstacle but it’s just another one to trample over. The legionaries don’t move so the robots take the initiative. If it’s in the way they destroy it and so the shooting beings.
The Legion came prepared. Their shields absorb the blasts without fault. The legionaries still wait, impassive, until the robots need to recharge. Those few seconds see a lot of movement in the legion. Shields are lowered, an opening is made in the middle and the energy cannon appears; with a rather enthusiastic young legionary in the controls. “This would hurt if you could feel it.” The cannon lights up and screams the end of the robots.
The Legion closes ranks and advances. The wasteland before them will need a lot of work to become fertile as it once was but it’s free from the invasion. It’s a small victory. When an army is mass produced every battle seems mechanical and meaningless. Still, the legionaries don’t falter. They keep advancing, sure of the importance of their task. They’d rather be taking care of their flowers, crops and cities but they are no more. Only robots now, in the way of their dreams. As any obstacle, they will be trampled over.
