His companion followed the clank of his armour and slammed the door close. What usually was an annoyance became carelessness in this particular night.
The night sky was red and the air heavy as if the viscosity of semi-coagulated blood was impeding every move. The Dragonslayer walked forward with as much enthusiasm as stubbornness. His companion knew he was never going to admit what a tremendous mistake it was to go out on a night like this; much less turn around. There was no point in trying to reason with him so one figure followed the other with an inharmonious clank of armour. By the time they had walked three blocks and reached the town square visibility was very low due to a thick, red fog.
For all intents and purposes the night could’ve had an open vein spraying on the open air because even the armour plates started to get wet with a crimson liquid. That, that was enough to stop the Dragonslayer on his tracks. “Told you it was a bad idea.” He didn’t answer, how could he? Dead men know no answers. She looked up through her demonic mask at the red Moon and wondered: why don’t they ever listen? Alas, those were humans: their pride always got the best of them. She could offer power but there are some things that no one could or should challenge. Perhaps the next one would be smarter; she always told herself that. She needed to, to keep offering pacts to humans after seeing them so foolish. Perhaps the next one wouldn’t overestimate the might of revenge and underestimate the horrors of the world.
