Introduction: Towards Dragon’s Island
“Excuse me, could you take me here.” The woman was dressed in a hooded robe and of her face only a part of her pale cheek was touched by the sunrays. The Captain looked at the map, it was a small island shaped like a dragon’s head, unoriginally named Dragon’s Island, far off the coast; it would only be a small deviation from their trip. “Sure, it won’t be very cheap but…” “I know exactly where you are going so I think the standard fare would suffice.” Well, no point in pushing the issue then. It was a deal and they set sail without incident the following morning.
The weather was gentle and the trip to the island was short and placid. As they approached the island the Sun was reaching its highest place among the heavens. The Captain was delighted: standard fare but easy money for an easy trip. She called the hooded woman to deck and showed the island in the distance. “Here we are, we’ll approach the island now in a boat.” From what glimpses the hood allowed it seemed like she was pleased. She went back to pick up her things and handed the Captain an envelope. “Here you are, thanks.” At that time, the barrelman cried out for a new sight.
“Dragons!” Everyone looked ashore: they were leaving the island and circling above the ship. “Everyone on deck! Man the cannons and prepare you sabres. We die fighting!” The Captain’s voice burned with every word. The woman laid a hand on her shoulder. “There’s no need to worry. It’s just my welcoming committee.” She let the robe fall for the Captain to see a scaly body and a pair of large wings that extended to the sides. The woman run and jumped overboard then rose in the air towards the dragons. She looked back at the Captain and waved with her free hand. The dragons left with her towards the island and the Captain led her ship away from that accursed island. It was never good business to meddle with dragons and their hot tempers.
