Introduction: Returning Home
I have wandered through these lands for so long but it’s finally time to go. I have found what I was looking for: I have redeemed myself. I suppose nothing has really changed. I’m probably seen as the same vagrant I’ve been for so many years despite my new armour. It doesn’t matter it’s not their eyes that needed to see who I have become. It’s not that I don’t care about their forgiveness but it wasn’t them I really needed to set things right with.
A warden? Perhaps he knows the way. “Excuse me, do you know how to reach the nearest port?” His voice makes a funny echo with that armour on. “I see, thanks. I’ll keep my eyes open just in case.” There’s a nightblade on the loose. Another criminal, obviously, since the rebel used that persona as a way of lashing out against traitors in the night. Now bandits have adopted it as a disguise. It can’t be said that it isn’t effective but to turn a figure of heroism into a mere costume for robbery is… blasphemous. How strange I notice things like this now.
Well, this city is not what I was expecting but if the ships don’t sink it should be enough. I hope I don’t have trouble about the sword, there’s always someone thinking it’s more valuable that it is. It’s broken, I tell them, easier to carry that way. It’ll be whole when I need it. Anyway, here we are. “A ticket to the mainland. Tourism mainly.” Well, I’ll be visiting friends mostly. Besides, it’s none of their business. Whatever sights I see and whoever’s head rolls it’s my choice now. I’ve been waiting far too long for this.
