That was what the general told us before we faced the marauders that day. We expected them to play dirty but we didn’t consider the degree of their malice. They brought weapons from the cities which even our medicine couldn’t heal. They attacked the land as well as the people and left only an arid waste. What little they didn’t destroy they stole but they did so while they ran for their lives. Too much was lost, too many, but that day they knew that their little prizes had come at a great cost to them too.
