Introduction: Out of the Pool, Into the Jungle
The dark tone of the armour made the hunter almost invisible against the foliage. Not a few steps behind was another hunter wearing sandals, fancy sunglasses, a colourful swimsuit and a multi-colour sword made with a pool noodle. Saying that she wasn’t dressed for the occasion would be stating the obvious. “What a way of dressing. Don’t you think you aren’t, exactly, fitting in?” “Thanks for the deep analysis. It’s good to have someone with your powers of observation on the hunt. It’d be piece of cake like this.” “I’d like to see that.” She gave him that look.
They kept on advancing. The heat was oppressive causing the armour plates to feel heaver than they were. She noticed the hunter panting and was glad that her clothing didn’t burden her against the temperature and humidity. Now, passing unnoticed was another thing. Perhaps she should play to her strengths and instead of fruitlessly trying to hide she should become the bait. “Get ready, I’ll get them to come.” “Don’t try anything funny.” She raised her sword and looked at it wobbling: “Right. I’ll try.” She came out of the bushes into a small clearing and looked around. The sunlight felt heavy on her skin. It wasn’t just her by now.
The marauders were always alert and had started to circle her. She wondered if her sword would be enough. They noticed the hesitation and took it as an invitation to attack. That wasn’t the wisest of choices. The first to lunge forward received a downwards whack to the head with the noodle sword that made his face bounce on the ground. The second didn’t even get a try as he found himself raised in the air by blades that stabbed his back.
There was a third that was smacked left and right in the face as his dagger pointlessly tried to reach for her skin. The fourth was brought down to the floor by the sheer force and weight of an airborne companion. It was a bit of a bloody mess, actually. “Not bad, perhaps you should make that sword you permanent weapon.” “You’d love that: it’d make it easier for me to smack some sense in that hard head of yours.” “That was not what I was trying to say.” “You can be sure I know.”
