“Radioactive, glowing waters… there’s nothing more refreshing in this wasteland! Come to Pool Land and enjoy. If you dissolve on the waters, we’ll return your money!” The aquatic creature hopped into the pool, tasted the acid waters a bit and, seeing that they were rather tasty, floated around drinking mouthfuls. The hyena looked with satisfaction from land and sniffing the waters detected an artificial smell. “Do you really think this is safe? I wouldn’t like to lose my spots.” He laughed but the creature on the water ignored him. “Well, let’s see.” The hyena touched the water with the tip of the hairs on the back of his right index’s fingertip and the tip of those hairs burnt releasing a smoke of an acrid smell. “That’s quite the cocktail.” He laughed again.
Sat by the pool and drinking a liquid that seemed completely transparent yet had a strong taste and smell the hyena looked at his aquatic friend, swimming and drinking. The Sun shone bright on the arid surroundings, drying what was already dead. Beyond the fence he could see only the vast emptiness of a land disintegrated. In the distance he noticed something, a couple of silhouettes walking against the reddish sky. He pointed them to his friend but nothing beyond the water was of interest to her. He focused, even strained his eyes, to notice more of them. He noticed a red armour and a pink mane of hair and a green jacket underneath, he could gather. “I think I know them.”
Looking back on many years of roaming the wasteland he thought of the handful of people he had encountered. There was a girl that liked to wield a red hammer in red armour and another that carried an inordinate amount of daggers painted in pink and green. That must be them. It had been a long time, no one could really know how much, since they had met. They were trustworthy in their job and he laughed at the thought that they were probably cooking up something together, “just like them to do so.” He kept smiling afterwards. “You know, it’s good that those two are together. This isn’t the kind of land to be all alone. You could end up finding a pool of acid with no one to enjoy it, right?” He laughed, she laughed too.
