Introduction: To Face the Sea
“It’s coming, run, run!” The machine inclined forward and its body advanced on its lone wheel. It wasn’t exactly a wheel but good enough for the press. It’s not as if anybody was going to worry about that and ignore the buildings crumbling to pieces as it trampled them with its… wheel. The body waited with disdain for the bullets and bombs to do their menial job. With one extending hand the giant robot reached for a tank, threw it into the air and then smashed it down onto the others with a hook. A cynic soldier remarked that they were lost seeing how good the robot’s boxing was.
With the general panic the streets were chaos in raw form and the cook had called it a day. A reported said so with a straight face as military vehicles flew behind him, until one landed too close. That prompted a remark about the weather that it’s wise not to repeat. The giant robot kept advancing with nothing to stop it. When it reached the centre of town it released several pulses of arcing electricity that shattered the glasses of the buildings and started various fires. The night came but the city saw few shadows with the flames consuming everything at maw’s reach.
The first mistake of the giant robot was, and there’s always one, to cut buildings with spinning, extended arms and throw them into the ocean. The waves spoke ill of its manners and the shadows murmured of an end to its harbinger. When the robot noticed the, comparatively, tiny sorceress emerging from the sea it didn’t register her as a threat; the second mistake. Not many errors were to follow when the sea rose to the level of the giant robot’s head and advanced. Face to face, the waves rose higher yet and swallowed the machine with one sonorous chomp. When they retreated the city was wet yet clean of any debris and ruins. Nobody saw the sorceress leave, it’s said she was engulfed in the waves and left with them. Of the giant robot, nobody knew of again. The ire of the waters had been clear enough.
