Introduction: A World of Trouble
There are all kinds of unsavoury characters at the docks but if you want information, there’s no better place. That’s what the warrior in iron armour kept repeating in her mind as she walked through the dank boards. The smell turned her stomach inside out and was grateful that her dedication prompted her to get up early and skip breakfast. The morning air suited her well and was a kind memory to contrast the pestilence around. She went into the pub at the corner right at the limit between sea and land. The name of ‘World’s End’ was fitting in more ways than one.
She looked around and wondered if she was better outside with the stink of fish and other non-describable odours. She sighed and went to the bar. “I’m looking for information on a mad man. He’s escaped from an asylum and could be a risk to himself or others.” “Everybody is a risk to themselves or others and we are all a bit mad here. You have to be to like such an irascible lady like the sea.” He wanted to be smart and she didn’t have neither the time nor the mood for it. “This isn’t a good time, tell me what you know and I’ll leave.” “All I know is that we know nothing. The world’s too large to know its secrets and…”
The entire roof was disintegrated in a blaze of sunlight that landed right in front of her: on the bar. It collapsed in ash and burnt the skin on the barman’s hands. She was again glad to have woken up early to meet the Sun. The patrons stood up in anger. “Nothing to say? Well, I’ll show you how stupid you are instead of telling you. You’ll get that.” She charged forward in a ring of sunlight. Her sword cut and her shield bashed left and right. Their tiny knives were useless. The boarding sabres were a bit of trouble but she was well equipped in her armour; she was also glad for her diligence in keeping it in top form.
After enough blood stained the floors the patrons started to realise that they were ants against a titan and tried to escape in fear. They couldn’t. Sunrays drew the limit to which they were allowed to walk. “I’m not repeating myself.” The men looked at each other with a smile. A dagger whizzed by her head and firmly lodged itself on the barman’s hand, behind her; his pistol fell to the ground. He tried to reach it and his arm was pinned to the floor with stinging bolts that painted his sleeve red. “These imbeciles only know how to wager their lives with their mouths: they either drink what they shouldn’t or say what they shouldn’t.” A woman smirked under a mane of distinct pink hair. Her companion, with parrot on shoulder and eye-patch over face joined her. “Come with us, we can help you. That idiot has caused enough trouble already. If that fool doesn’t see sense then we can surely put it more bluntly to him.”
