Introduction: Museum Job

“This is the place, sir.” “Take cover and take aim. I’ll be relying on your sniping.” “Yes, sir.” The commando smiled with all her teeth and left laughing. He continued towards the main entrance and went into the museum; she surely seemed strange at times but her reputation spoke by itself. He left the lobby without looking, not explicitly, to the guests drinking and chatting. He went straight into the main gallery and looked at the museum’s newest acquisition: a chest of gold from the deepest corners of the seven seas.

The prehistoric recreations flanked the galleries around the main one; where the treasure was located. He looked around, half interested and half inspecting the security measures. Everything seemed spot on but something looked to be amiss. It was one of those feelings you get in the field, it made him uneasy. Unable to pinpoint the issue to something specific he returned to the main lobby where everyone was dazzled by the apparition in front of the treasure chest. It pulled at it with a hook and made it disappear; it vanished immediately afterwards.

He spoke at his watch: “It’s been done, keep your eyes open.” He approached the central stand and looked around. He noticed the holographic display and gave it a kick. It projected the same animation again. That meant that the chest had probably been take long ago and he didn’t notice it. He ran outside and looked around, no sign. “Too late? No, you can’t move a chest full of gold so fast.” “Movement on the eastern exit.” “On my way.” He rushed to the corner and peeked with a small mirror his watch conveniently incorporated. He wasn’t expecting such a view.

The rat was pulling his sin with difficulty and a long dark car complained. He ran towards the car and climbed over it, then jumped on the rat. The petty thief tried to pull out a weapon but he kicked his arm and then his head. He looked backwards to see the back window of the car going down but his sniper was ready and erased any threat that dared to insinuate itself from it with a flawless shot.

The driver tried to accelerate but the second shot destroyed the engine. He walked slowly towards the car and opened the back door. “Time for a chat, Fish Face.” He looked inside but there was only the driver; the other back door was open. On the other side of the car a drain cover was slid to a side and left open a dark, round maw. True to his reputation, he had escaped through murky waters again.
