Introduction: Yeti on Their Way
The winds rose high and strong, blowing sand against the heavy armour. Grains crackle against the metal like ineffective pellets but that wasn’t the most pressing concern. “Is that a scorpion?” The yeti knews the way and also that his eyes were deceiving him: he shruged the comment away and kept walking onward. “Look, is that some sort of armadillo?” The yeti simply ignored the comment; he knews better than to fall for illusions. If only they could reach an oasis but that was wishful thinking in the middle of the storm. Even if they reached one, they’d have no cover and would only find sand over, in and around the water; if it even managed to stay above sand. Things were starting to look a bit grim. The yeti wasn’t going to tell that to the boy yet he knew.
Relying on raw brute force the yeti kept going forward. The boy had stopped joking with questions like “are we there yeti?” because the Sun had melted most of his will. The yeti simply wished that there would be time enough for him to get across the sea of sand. He kept looking around in the naive hope that he’ll find an oasis or travellers to assist them; only dreams. A siren? Here? There must be water nearby. A moment. It’s impossible and besides, since when sirens have half their body like that of a snake despite the bright blue of her scales? He felt the danger pounding, it was a deception and they were prey: her prize, her water.
The yeti couldn’t outrun the siren. She was too fast, too adept in the sands and he was exhausted. He did the only thing he could do: keep walking forward. At least it was simple to keep repeating the same motion time and again. The boy? How was him? He breathed, slowly but regularly. He was asleep. Had he fainted or simply dozed off; no matter he was safe, for now. The siren was at arm’s length and the yeti kept walking. His senses became overflowed by fear. At that moment the boy awoke and seeing the pouncing enemy instinctively reacted and sent the creature flying back with a snow ball, just conjured with what little energy he had left. That kept the siren quite occupied as she desperately gathered the quickly melting snow in her palms; she couldn’t afford to waste a drop. The yeti kept walking forward carrying his friend. “There yeti?” “Not yeti but soon, boy, soon.”
