Introduction: Call of the Justicar
Two armies stare at each other under a murky sky. The ground clatters as if made of metal under the weight of each soldier. The warriors’ march is at a standstill with the Grand General and the Warrior Princess at the vanguard. The Warrior Princess advances with the Grand General but the opposing army presents no officials to greet them. It does, though, serve a quick array of arrows that both evade with ease. It had taken a lot of convincing to get the Warrior Princess’ help and the Grand General wasn’t going to waste it. Raising his staff his army charged and personally he opened the way for her to sneak past the enemy and reach their rear. There will be no retreat for them.
The Warrior Princess reaches behind the enemy and sees that they aren’t exactly as organized as they seemed. They are bandits and mercenaries, even some criminals, some of which she had crossed before. Who could’ve gathered this bunch and how were they kept in check to form an army? The light that descended from the opening clouds broke her train of thought. A sort of angelic being appeared as the sound of trebuchets rained death on both armies. Confusion and fear spread in all directions. The Grand General imposed order with his presence and holding command of those brave enough to remain, from either army, commanded to advance.
The being presented himself as a Justicar and guided the Warrior Princess behind the hill where the trebuchets were guarded. The platoon present was too much for her but with the Justicar she might be able to do it. She presented a diversion by cutting the rope of a trebuchet with her weapon while the Justicar did the same on the opposite side of the deployment. With the engineers rushing to do the repairs and the soldiers unable to guard every area they pressed towards the centre.
The Grand General and his soldiers appeared at the front and, along the Warrior Princess and Justicar, manage a crippling pincer manoeuvre that allows the destruction of the trebuchets. Both Warrior Princess and Grand General meet at the centre of the valley but there’s no sign of the Justicar. More pressing mysteries scrape at their minds, though: who would organize an expendable army against them? Why would they go to such lengths?
