Karma is receiving a new look and feel so we’ll be giving one look of our own to the upcoming Enlightened One. The new Karma has gotten a brand new style that includes a clearer surge of magic but that also comes at the expense of her serene elegance.
New Look, New Problems
There’s still a lot of what Karma stood for, even in her skills, as she remains a powerful Ionian leader with power that comes right from her inner will. Still, she certainly seems more flamboyant than before and her style can feel too loaded with features in certain parts and plain in others.
For instance, compare her shoes and stocking to her dress or the inexplicable stocking asymmetry to the balanced mantle behind her. Besides, when mantra-charged it seems as if there’s power in her but not really overflowing as her limbs and eyes suggest.
There seems to be some reason to the use of asymmetry and multi-layered clothes but they appear solitary traits. Suppose one of her arms was completely covered with a long sleeve, then the asymmetry would mark the style.
The same could be applied to the elaborate clothes: if her stocking and shoes were more developed it could speak of more elaborate, maybe, expensive clothes; fitting of a diplomat. The mentioned characteristics don’t stand well alone nor do they work in conjunction with the rest.
Overall, her new look seems a bit whimsical, trying to capture a mix of mystic simplicity and aristocratic flare which results in a jumble of elements that, ultimately, tell nothing. This doesn’t mean that Karma looks bad, but her style gives the impression of being polished but lacking a clear direction.
Harbour Tradition
Fortunately, Karma purists may find some refuge in Traditional Karma. Traditional Karma will be unlocked for free, read that again, to anyone that owns Karma when she is deployed to the live servers. If you’ve been putting off getting Karma then now is a very good time to get her; it’s just 3150 IP.
Traditional Karma has some of the style that defines the old Enlightened One but it still feels lacking. The balance between black and white is nonexistent as both colours are mashed together, seemingly, at random. Additionally, the outfit hardly passes for an elegant dress.
In fact, it seems like a re-imagining of Karma that bows to the conventions of her new style. It’s understandable but not any less disappointing. While new particles seem to be incorporated her mantra charge also seems rather unassuming and simple.
Conclusion
In general terms, the Karma re-launch feels like a new interpretation of Karma more than a refinement. There’s an evident and welcome layer of polish added but just as there are good features added some don’t seem convincing.
The revealed skins, both Classic and Traditional, may yet not be final but when a product hits the PBE not many changes should be expected; as Nidalee fans very well know. Therefore, you could say that what you see is what you get.
As such, there’s a lot to like about the new Karma but it may still leave some little, nagging letdowns in the air. New fans will find an interesting new mage with a flamboyant, whimsical style and rather tame ultimate; visually speaking. Whereas, long-time fans will surely feel that Traditional Karma is a nice parting gift that doesn’t capture enough of their beloved Karma as they would like.
What do you think?
so it’s worth it to buy karma now just for skin right ? and another question when will annie vu will be update anyway
Well, considering that unlocking Karma now would mean getting a champion and a skin, valued at least at 520 RP, for just 3150 IP it sure looks like a good option. If you also like support, or mages that can support the team, then Karma would be a great choice for a very low price.
Annie’s review has already been updated with the visual upgrade, you can find it here; sorry it took so long.
