League of Legends: Tryndamere Skins’ Review – StrategyZero

Tryndamere, the Barbarian King
Tryndamere, the Barbarian King

Tryndamere, the Barbarian King has several outfits and swords available. Some are inspired in historical warriors while others are influenced by fantasy. Whether you like history, fantasy or a mix of the two Tryndamere provides good options. To know more about them, read further on this skins’ review.

Highland Tryndamere
Highland Tryndamere Splash Art Highland Tryndamere Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 520 RP
Concept: Tryndamere dressed as a warrior from the Scottish Highlands.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: Highland Tryndamere is a splash art that shows its age. The background is unclear, some rocks seem to be behind Tryndamere but there isn’t much detail or room devoted to the setting. Besides, the black space around the background suffocates the piece. Tryndamere barely keeps afloat among the drab colours and dim, almost whimsical lighting. His clothes are well delineated and the reflections add depth to the depiction; metal is particularly well drawn. Regardless, this is splash art that for every hit has a miss and ends up being just average.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Highland Tryndamere is an unpretentious but practical look for Tryndamere. His helmet is proportioned without exaggerated ornaments, just like his clothes and leather armour. Even the sword, though long, seems easily wieldable. While the realistic approach is nice it also lacks appeal. Besides, the mute colours hardly help the matter. This all makes Highland Tryndamere seem opaque in comparison with the flashy portrayals natural of a fantasy game. In the end, Highland Tryndamere is a nice skin, especially if you prefer a plausible representation, but one without much lustre.

King Tryndamere
King Tryndamere Splash Art King Tryndamere Model
Category: Regular
Price: 520 RP
Concept: Tryndamere dressed as the King of Freljord.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: King Tryndamere’s splash art is a nice and adequately regal portrayal. The background is an adequate setting and the constant snow storms of Freljord make the lack of detail acceptable. Tryndamere is well dressed in royal armour with a crowned helmet. The materials depictions vary in their quality: the cloth shows folds but looks simple, the hair flows but seems too thready, the fur simply disappoints as it doesn’t even look as such and lastly the metal is well outlined but lacks polish. Overall, this is a nice piece that does it job quite well but isn’t close to excellence.

Conclusion: This skin represents Tryndamere as King of Freljord and is thus a nice bit of lore applied to his looks. The royal attire fits Tryndamere well and the mix of armour and clothes is balanced; still the winding belt looks unnecessary. There’s a good mix of colours that help differentiate armour and clothes apart. The sword is oversized and unwieldy, as it should be expected, but it also has a nice design with ample decorations and even dents on the edge. King Tryndamere is a good looking skin which, added to the satisfactory lore reference, makes a product worth recommending.

Viking Tryndamere
Viking Tryndamere Splash Art Viking Tryndamere Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 750 RP
Concept: Tryndamere stylized as a Viking warrior.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: Viking Tryndamere’s splash art goes for a clear and distinct style which shines in some parts and lets down in others. The background paints a good setting but it omits details with simple blurs. It seems as if a good base was laid but wasn’t capitalized on. Tryndamere is well depicted but with a few problems. On the one hand, the metal shines under the light and the fur is convincing. On the other hand, the hair looks like threads and the obscured metal of the sword and boots look like stone and wood respectively. All things, considered this is an alright splash art but at times it seems hampered by the technique chosen.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Viking Tryndamere is a gritty take on Tryndamere in all aspects. The theme is consistently displayed: his skin is dirty, the helmet has long impractical horns, his arms are uncovered to show his muscles and tattoos; he even looks angry. It’s not just his attire but also his heavily dented and huge sword as it seems to include a normal sized one as fuller. Strangely, the armour and clothes are lavishly decorated; which is unexpected of a fierce warrior that would eschew decoration. All in all, Viking Tryndamere accomplishes what it sets out to do. If you want a fierce look for Tryndamere, Viking Tryndamere works but note that he doesn’t omit embellishing himself.

Demonblade Tryndamere
Demonblade Tryndamere Splash Art Demonblade Tryndamere Model
Category: Legendary
Price: 1820 RP
Concept: Tryndamere as a nightmarish demon warrior.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: New particles for his fury, Bloodlust active, Spinning Slash and Undying Rage.
Animations: New animation for his joke, taunt, laugh and Mocking Shout.
Sounds: New voice-over for Tryndamere.
Splash Art: This is a piece with a very effective composition but with serious perspective problems. The background is minimal and barely sets a place for Tryndamere to unleash his fury. The depiction of Tryndamere goes for a specific style that does complement the demonic appearance well; the sword’s guard is particularly well drawn. Besides, the stance and the trail of the sword as it slashes the ground further the unrestraint fury theme. Unfortunately, the shape of the sword’s blade is horribly depicted. Moreover, Tryndamere’s body and clothes superimpose in unbelievable ways as well as being disproportionate to each other. Demonblade Tryndamere’s splash art has a good concept and composition but its realization leaves much to be desired.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Demonblade Tryndamere is the pinnacle of fury set free: nothing about this skin fails to convey the point of a warrior dominated by his rage: the dirty rags, spiky hair, his lifeless eyes they all show a Tryndamere that has left everything behind except battle. The sword deserves special mention due to an excellent design that is both savage and attractive. The guard is a work of art: from its mouth it expels the blade and at the same time holds Tryndamere captive with its corrupting tendrils. The new animations are a nice addition but it’s the particles that better support the concept with the splendid voice over. For Tryndamere fans this is a great skin but, considering the cost it’s recommended only for the most devoted.

Sultan Tryndamere
Sultan Tryndamere Splash Art Sultan Tryndamere Model
Category: Regular
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Tryndamere dressed as a Turkish warrior wielding a huge scimitar.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: New particles for Spinning Slash.
Animations: New animations for auto-attacks’ critical hits and sword drag while walking.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: This piece paints an interesting scene of Tryndamere conquering his enemies with horns blown on the left, loot on the right and an abdicating ruler in the centre. Unfortunately, the background’s general lack of clarity makes the setting difficult to discern: is there a road going up a mountain or a fortress wall behind the troops? Tryndamere looks imposing due to the dual effect of perspective and style. The clothes are finely depicted with multiple, different textures visible and detailed decoration. However, the legs look a bit blurry and the oversized scimitar seems shorter and wider than it truly is. Regardless, the portrayal is excellent with great use of shading to convey light sources; like moonlight and fires. Overall, a very good splash art that would be excellent if it weren’t for its misty background.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Sultan Tryndamere has a distinct and interesting look: the clothes, coupled with the helmet, and the characteristic moustache work well to portray the image of a classic Ottoman warrior. Additionally, the sword, though oversized, does convey a mix between a kilij and a scimitar that matches the style. Compromises had to be made to adapt the style to Tryndamere: armour is lacking and the sword looks fantastic; still, the overall look is reasonable. Moreover, the deadly fame of Ottoman warriors isn’t a bad match for a raging barbarian.
The new animations, more than the particles, add a refreshing visual layer over the usual activities which help set the skin apart from the other offerings. There’s nothing groundbreaking but they are appreciable and add variety to the familiar. On the whole, the skin provides an appealing and traditional Turkish style that can be enjoyed by fans of historical warriors and Tryndamere alike.

Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere
Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere Splash Art Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Tryndamere in the image of Guan Yu from the Three Kingdoms period.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: New particles for his fury, Spinning Slash and Undying Rage.
Animations: New recall and critical hits animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: The background presents a snow-covered land with, perhaps, an invaded fort. It’s mostly a guess because everything is so diffuse that it’s difficult to identify any elements except for Tryndamere. The Barbarian King receives an impressive presentation but one that is also uneven. One look reveals excellent shading and reflections for his armour and sword as well as for his clothes. However, the lower body looks dull and his left arm covers most of his body due to a ostentatious pose. Therefore, it’s difficult to get a clear image of how he looks like. The glowing eye may also be a bit too much as it suggests some demonic energy coursing through him. While it could simply be an effect of his rage it’s the only indication which, added to the lack of context, makes it an unclear element. All in all, it’s a adequate presentation for Tryndamere but one that doesn’t display him in the best of ways.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere implements its concept rather well though in a conventional way and without any extra effort. To start with, the beard and armour resemble the popular depictions of Guan Yu to an extent though he preferred to wear a robe over his armour. While there’s a lot of ornamentation and a reliance on bronze his appearance doesn’t stand out apart from depicting the famous Han General. His great sword is also decorated though Guan Yu favoured an also imposing guan dao. That could’ve been implemented as he could wield the weapon in the same manner and just leave the pole behind it. However, that would’ve meant readjustments were needed for some animations to prevent clipping. The new particles and animations feel like decoration as they neither further the theme nor add anything visually striking. Then, what we are left is a furious barbarian adapted into a Chinese warrior paying homage to Guan Yu. The result is good but brimming with untapped potential. Even as a traditional Chinese warrior Tryndamere doesn’t feel particularly exciting or interesting. Ultimately, fans of Tryndamere or Romance of the Three Kingdoms will find that the skin is satisfactory but classically uncompromising in its choices.

Nightmare Tryndamere
 Splash Art Nightmare Tryndamere Model
Category: Regular
Price: 750 RP
Concept: Tryndamere as a coarse, horrendous executioner.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: There’s a place where the air is thick and only the wails of the damned can be heard. They hang in cubical cages and their only sign of life they get is that of the one that doomed them. The setup is good but the background is so diffuse that only a tower and some other elements behind Tryndamere are noticeable; besides the cages. Said cages have a terrifying look but that’s as far as we are allowed to go. This lack of detail doesn’t feel like a mystery but instead like elements being arbitrarily hidden from plain sight.
Conversely, Tryndamere’s depiction is awesome: from his sickly or dead flesh to his ragged clothes, everything is clear, detailed and vivid. His sword, even though it’s not completely displayed, doesn’t lack relevance: a heavy chunk of metal with multiple dents and a dull edge; it certainly isn’t a clean weapon. What is puzzling is the intense blur of his left hand as it’s not that far away though it appears dissolving in the intense fog.
Overall, this is a great portrayal of Tryndamere with a ridiculously blurry background. Sadly, it doesn’t feel like a foggy, eerie setting but, actually, like a missed opportunity.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: To an extent, Nightmare Tryndamere can be considered a budget version of Demonblade. The model shows a scarred but strangely healthy warrior dressed in rather new rags and some protection. Chains with a few spikes around his left arm seem to offer more protection and the shackle around his neck keeps the bag in place so as to keep his identity a mystery. His sword is also surrounded by chains but the blade is the most interesting part: its blunt edges are deformed by use and it’s clear that it’s seen its fair share of use, killing with the sheer brutality of its weight.
All in all, the appearance is somewhat terrifying even if it seems rather new and pre-arranged. There is a puzzling lack of dirt on the clothes and nothing appears worn out from use and exposition to the environment. On the contrary, the elements appear to be artificially produced to look used: the cloth cut with care to resemble rags.
The result is still interesting and for its price it’s a nice re-model. If you can excuse its artificial feel then Nightmare Tryndamere has a good, dark aesthetic that stands out.

Beast Hunter Tryndamere
Beast Hunter Tryndamere Splash Art Beast Hunter Tryndamere Model
Category: Regular
Price: 750 RP
Concept: Tryndamere as a fantasy hunter.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: Except for the weird, beaked dinosaur, or whatever beast it’s supposed to be, the setting lacks much relevance. It gives a place for Sejuani and Bristle to stand and fills the rest of empty space. However, the only significant part is what little we get to see of the hunted beast: the target of the hunters. In that regard, the creature is interesting as an explicit link between modern birds and dinosaurs. The maw is clearly something to be feared even if the upper part looks empty of details. Regardless, it’s fine game of which we only get a hint.
Moving on to the hunters, Sejuani and Bristle are too far away for details to be noticed. At any rate, a reasonable idea of Bristle’s reptilian physiognomy is perceivable; though to really understand the body shape some effort or an external source is necessary. Sejuani is so tiny that added to a pose that hides her legs and chest means that only a minimal glance at her aspect is possible. Fortunately, her action is probably the most relevant, having snared the prey, she is essential to the hunt.
Tryndamere appears floating in mid air, presumably, having hopped from the beast’s back. One hand on the beak, the readied attack means that a useful view to his aspect is possible. On the other hand, the usually large sword appears diminutive and even inoffensive for such a vociferous warrior. Actually, the general size of Tryndamere is small but, overall, the depiction works by having meaning and serving as a spotlight.
Draven does the complete opposite; though he doesn’t forget to take the lion’s share of available space. With his back against the viewer and an abrupt perspective his look has to be guessed for the most part. Throwing a spinning axe at the beast is his main contribution and while more are to follow we can only guess from where he leapt and where he intends to land. Besides, the blade of the spinning axe on his right hand seems rather small in proportion to its grip; yet if it were longer, as it should, it would slash his left hand. Aside from his big grin there’s nothing of the boastful executioner so it seems like a rather common action for his grandiosity.
Adding it all together, this is a splash art that tries with varying success to integrate three champions into a significant action. The problem is that they have to share with a fourth character: the hunted beast. This means that there can only be so much space for the daring displays of power that they intend to show. While the conception is quite good the sacrifices are evident; even though nothing explains the blandness of the background. In the end, it’s a good splash art but with too many concessions to be truly remarkable.

Conclusion: It doesn’t take much to take the raging barbarian and turn him into a hunter that dresses with the spoils of his work. Wearing shells and horns as well as wielding a sword of carved bone or fang Tryndamere effortlessly slides into a new persona that has much in common with his usual one. The idea isn’t bad and the florid design of his armour means that function becomes subservient to form. Regardless, there’s some sense to the distribution of things and the asymmetry of the design helps give it a more distinct identity. The sword speaks for itself with its irregular edges. If there’s one thing that Tryndamere won’t sacrifice is his viciousness. While there’s nothing revolutionary the staples of the fantasy warrior are present and they are effective in transmitting the skin’s message.
Overall, Beast Hunter Tryndamere is quite an appealing skin as long as the fantastic approach is embraced. It delivers the expected fantasy with the usual trappings but without ignoring a good style to catch the eye. For fans of the Barbarian King it’s a fine change of clothes that fit him as if tailor made.

Chemtech Tryndamere
Chemtech Tryndamere Splash Art Chemtech Tryndamere Model
Category: Regular
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Tryndamere as a chemically-enhanced swordsman.
Model: New model for Tryndamere and his sword.
Particles: New particles for his abilities, auto-attack and recall. New sparks and trail of dust for his sword when walking.
Animations: New recall animation.
Sounds: New sounds for Bloodlust, Spinning Slash, Undying Rage and recall.
Splash Art: The Moon enters from a broken skylight to find broken flasks and machinery just like everything seems to be covered in a thick goo that emanates hideous vapours of a similar tone. Much of the setting is disturbing as it indicates experimentation beyond the confines of ethical or moral concerns; with probably disastrous results. The fact that a good part of the background is left empty with only diffuse suggestions of elements or a pale smoke means that not all the potential of the setting is exploited.
Tryndamere stares back at us with eyes filled with chemical rage. His head seems to be connected directly to a machine that fuels him with chemicals. What would’ve been a slaw where his prosthetic limb was added is now a dilapidated obstacle that won’t stop his advance. From the viscous solution in the sword to the scarred body and the heavy armour and thick leather covering him it’s obvious that practical matters triumph over everything else. His face may be protected from the fumes, or further filled with chemicals, so that what remains of a man is now little with regards to conscience and everything with regards to artificial fuel. All this detail is nicely manifested with great lighting and shading as well as sharp lines; provided we look away from the left leg, abdomen and sword. That’s where things get a little sketchy without much reason. The fact that his most prominent artificial addition, his prosthetic arm, is hidden behind his flexed right leg seems anticlimactic in view of all this unchecked experimental horror.
Adding it all together, this is a splash art that makes for a monumental, even if flawed, portrayal of Trydnamere modified without care or remorse. The setting supports the core message effectively so that all horror is plain to see. The heart of the piece is exposed and that makes it a wonderful though imperfect presentation card. Still, if perfection can be excused then this can be one of League of Legends’ best splash arts.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Somewhere between the chemical wonders of Singed and the feral bestiality of Warwick we find Chemtech Tryndamere; no revolution in naming, at least. The skin takes the Berserker and adds enough artificial enhancements to turn him into an even bigger killing machine. What little of the body is visible is scarred in the name of science but most of it is covered in bronze-like armour. From the waist down there’s only decoration but the right arm is a crude but effective motor for slashing non-stop; which is connected to further modifications on the body itself. It’s not very clear why the gas mask is necessary, perhaps the fumes from his new chemical reactions would end up killing Tryndamere, but the braid-like back of the head is certainly exaggerated.
When we move to particles, we find that the fury has been transformed into subtle swirls around Tryndamere but that, at high levels, makes, presumably, toxic fumes exit from his back and sword; which is a great touch. Bloodlust is disappointingly simple as a, at best, emanation of gas around him, while Mocking Shout has a clever but simple masked chicken logo; only when cast behind an enemy. Spinning Slash looks merely re-coloured while Undying Rage takes advantage of previous particles. It adds fury on top of Bloodlust gas and a dim glow to make evident how the chemicals are overwhelming the subject in question; just like Singed’s Insanity Potion. It’s not actually that clear. In fact, it looks like a frail demonstration of power that is summed up by a big glow and occasional exhausted fumes. Auto-attacks employ appealing but brief and simple splashes while walking leaves realistic sparks and a trail of dust; which would suit any Tryndamere skin yet is still a good touch. Nevertheless, everything looks too monotonous due to the strict use of a single colour.
Sounds can feel disappointing. Bloodlust sounds more gaseous, Spinning Slash a bit liquid but with a pleasing slicing when reaching an enemy and only Undying Rage gets proper aural support. The steam-like sounds, which remind of Singed’s Insanity Potion even more, are a great backup for an ultimate that can feel visually unimaginative. The new recall joins feral irrationality with artificial refuelling; which is a good addition to the theme.
All in all, there’re areas where Chemtech Tryndamere could do better; starting by the name. Undying Rage, for an ultimate, it’s just an addition of other abilities and most of its appeal is derived from another champion’s ultimate; even if it still is appealing. The new model also seems to go through the motions with the usual artificial modifications; practically following Warwick’s blueprint. The particles are too homogeneous with no variation in tones and the sounds tend to provide shy support for the most part; except for Undying Rage’s borrowed appeal. In the end, it’s can’t be denied that Chemtech Tryndamere is an effective skin despite its flaws. The artificially enhanced Berserker is a bit of a stretch but suffices in the chaotic world of League. The fact that the ideas are derivative with appeal clearly borrowed from other Zaunites doesn’t really detract from the skin’s personality. It does feel like retreaded ground anyway.

Conclusion

Tryndamere has a relatively conventional variety of skins; fortunately, they manage to be quite good. King Tryndamere stands out as a recommendation. Based on his lore and displaying a clean monarchical look it’s a skin that delves beyond the usual warrior style.

There are more skins to recommend but they stay close to his classic barbarian theme. Viking provides a hardened as well as adorned historical style that is as gritty as it is regal.

Sultan adapts a characteristic Ottoman warrior into raging barbaric form. There’s a degree of stylization but the new animations and particles offer variety to the usual actions and so the skin manages to stand apart from the alternatives.

A dark option is Nightmare Tryndamere. The ominous look is accomplished but by using elements that seem artificial, arranged to fulfil their role. In spite of that, considering its price, it’s an effective skin that manages a distinct aspect. It’s far from a bad option to consider.

A lighter yet still vicious take is Bestial Hunter Tryndamere. It draws all it can from the staples of fantasy fiction and delivers an appealing and fantastic look that suits the barbarian without issue. The looks always stand before practicality but the result is attractive for what it is.

Although legacy, Warring Kingdoms Tryndamere can’t be said not to be any good as it fits well among the available alternatives. It doesn’t make the most of its concept but it’s still an interesting take on the Barbarian King. While a bit of a letdown it’s certainly worth considering.

The chemcial infusion added to mechanical augmentation that Chemtech Tryndamere offers is hardly original. It’s mostly a retread of ideas found in other champions in similar ways. There’re other problems but the result manages to be appealing if one is ready to offer a certain dose of forgiveness.

Finally, Demonblade Tryndamere is an interesting skin but its price makes it worth recommending only to hardcore Tryndamere fans. It doesn’t offer as much as recent legendary skins but the result is good and distinct.

  1. are you gonna add his new skin?

  2. Is Demonblade Tryndamere a reference to Nightmare from Soul Calibur?

  3. I was so happy when i got demonblade as a mystery gift.
Very great investment for me(we exchanged mystery gifts)

  4. What do you think about the new Nightmare Tryndamere skin?
As for me, I would rate it 4/5. It’s a 750 skin with an appealing model changes for Tryndamere, and it somehow describes his brutality as a masked executioner.

However, the concept really deserved more interesting adjustments. Some new black particles changes to his abilities and new critical strike sound/animation and also a new recall animation. All of that would have been put in a 975 skin with such a perfect concept, to eventually would have made the skin the best one to pick for Tryndamere, it would have even beaten Demon Blade one.
What a waste, to what I think, is a really great concept for Tryndamere.

    • Completely agreed, Nightmare has a rather nice model and the concept could be more developed. Sadly, it seems like it’ll be another wasted opportunity.

  5. Hello everyone, you are all amazing people, love the site, keep us the good work ^ – ^

  6. I noticed that in here Nightmare Tryndamere skin is tagged a Regular skin yet in the skin list page it is tagged Legacy, umm which is which?

  7. Not considering price, what would be the best Tryndamere skin? I just got demonblade and was wondering if there was anything better out there.

    • Demonblade Tryndamere is the most elaborate skin the Barbarian King has available. Sultan and Warring Kingdoms come next but they aren’t at the same level. If we consider price it’s another story but in technical terms there aren’t particularly groundbreaking skins, unfortunately.

  8. umm is beast hunter tryndamere based on monster hunter Series

  9. With the release of Chemtech Tryndamere, his Spinning Slash now has a slicing sound effect when it hits an enemy.
