Overview
Mystery chests, mystery skins and four bundles appear while September waves goodbye. There are some interesting skins and good discounts but, are they worth getting together? Do the one RP extras add anything of value to the bundles? Here’s the sale overview to answer all those questions.
Blood Moon
Discount: 50%
Total Price: 9150 -> 4575 RP
Skins’ Price: 4648 -> 2324 RP
The set of Blood Moon skins may one of the best available. Sadly, the re-models show their age and clearly distinguish themselves as the less appealing part of the bundle. The good news is that Shen has a reasonable price for a re-model but Akali does not. Regardless, Blood Moon may be one of the best skins that Akali has available due to the lack of competition at 975 RP and less; Headhunter is too expensive.
The highlights of this bundle are evidently Elise, Kalista and Thresh. These three skins go beyond model changes and do a good job at representing the Blood Moon theme. Some end up better than others but they all are attractive skins that offer nice features for their price.
All things considered, the worst that the bundle offers isn’t bad at all. Both Akali and Shen have nice re-models and, sans some price adjustment, they are appealing skins. If we add to this the worthy skins for Elise, Kalista and Thresh we end with quite a good bundle. If a mere re-model isn’t enough for you these days then this could be a bundle that doesn’t offer enough. However, if a nice re-model sounds interesting then the Blood Moon bundle has an appealing theme to offer with an icon as a ribbon.
Pentakill
Discount: 50%
Total Price: 8688 -> 4344 RP
Skins’ Price: 4648 -> 2324 RP
The Pentakill skins are an uneven affair. The models don’t always make the most of the theme and sometimes don’t even suit the champion too well; like Sona. The less interesting part of the bundle, thus, is paying 975 RP for a re-model when there are better alternatives to consider. In the case of Sona it’s more about suitability than looks so it can be a nice skin if you like her gothic aesthetic. Yorick, Karthus and Mordekaiser don’t strictly look bad but they aren’t exactly dressed in an impressive way either and these champions have better options.
The highlight of the bundle is Olaf as new particles and sounds join the new model. The idea could be a bit of a stretch for a Viking but the skin has some attractive features that make it worthwhile. In the end, it may not be enough, icon included, to justify getting all the other skins. Therefore, if you are only interested in a few skins, Olaf and Sona stand out, then it’s better to rely on a regular sale and a lot of patience. Conversely, if you like the whole Pentakill line then this is a bundle that shouldn’t be missed.
Who Needs a Shirt
Discount: 50%
Total Price: 9444 -> 4722 RP
Skins’ Price: 4340 -> 2170 RP
Few bundles can show how uneven skins can be as this one does. We have a simplistic skin like Pre-Void Kassadin, a questionable amalgamation like Giant Enemy Crabgot and an uninspired homage like Ruthless Pantheon. Neither of these skins stands out in a good way. Pre-Void is the only concept that seems worthwhile but the simple implementation doesn’t let it shine. The Crabgot and Ruthless skins may have potential but the execution doesn’t let it show.
Pool Party Graves can be a worthwhile skin if you like the funny water theme. The price is high for what it offers but it has its charm if you can accept that fact. Gladiator Draven has a classic concept but the execution elevates it into something special. The new fire particles give quite a display once Draven’s starts to make use of his abilities and they surely catch the eye; as only he could. The skin that really impresses is Muay Thai Lee Sin thanks to its new animations. The different martial artist feel that the skin has may not be evident at once but doesn’t fail to feel satisfying with repeated use.
With this in mind, this is a bundle only worth getting for the Muay Thai, Gladiator and, perhaps, Pool Party skins. The other skins are simplistic and even the minimal price of Crabgot doesn’t offset its atypical appeal. If you like all the skins then it can be a worthwhile bundle as it reduces significantly the price of one skin. On the other hand, if you just want the best that it has to offer then maybe one third of the bundle isn’t worth getting. In this case, better to arm oneself with patience and rely on regular sales.
