Introduction: Arrow to the Heart
The arrow flew straight up and then descended with the expected behaviour from a projectile. It whistled through the air and lodged itself firmly in the Marquis’ heart. He looked down at his chest and produced a smirk. With his right hand he pulled the arrow and looked at it. “To think that such a pretty thing could ruin such an exquisite shirt. What a waste.” He closed his fist and the beautifully ornamented arrow was broken in two. The pieces fell to the ground and he looked up at the sender.
She hadn’t been idle, as soon as she realised that the shot wasn’t fatal she had sent many more arrows in the same way. The Marquis proved a formidable target to hit: because of his unexpected agility he simply danced between the falling arrows. He seemed to mock her with such moves; he only needed to pretend to have an invisible companion to add insult to injury. He had too much class for that but his smirk was always visible. While the great distance made sure that she was safe from the Marquis’ potential retaliation she hadn’t anticipated his facetiousness.
Seeing how this was proceeding the bow-woman realised she needed to up the ante. The next set were glowing arrows which flew directly at the Marquis. He dodged them easily but the arrows hadn’t failed yet: with a turn in mid-air they continued the attack. The Marquis surely wasn’t expecting that. He managed to dodge a couple but the remaining ones hit him. More were coming and even though unable to kill him they had wounded him. Before things got worse, the Marquis disappeared with a sonorous laugh: “We will meet again, archer.” That was a sound statement for her mission wasn’t one of dispelling his presence, only.
