Introduction: Looking for the Blood Moon

The automaton looked up into the night sky and saw the red Moon eclipsing all stars with its light. It was an unusual happening but not according to its records: it wasn’t even fourth time in the month. What could be causing this? Perhaps this was no natural phenomenon and there was something else tinting the Moon. It was something that wouldn’t normally interest her but as a law enforcer, of sorts, it had its incidence on her line of work. It was time to ask around.

People in the department of astronomy from the nearby college couldn’t explain it but were well aware of the happenings. Their detailed measurements didn’t seem to be useful but she stored them anyway; you never know what you’ll need on the field, according to training and experience. Less conventional advice proved more interesting. The undertaker sounded like he was spinning a long yarn but it all had a degree of logic.

The ritual of blood was the one in charge of turning the Moon red with its ancient and obscure secrets. As it could only be expected there was a good degree of blood involved and certainly not donated voluntarily. The problem was that no one knew where the ritual would be carried because it changed places every single time. Add to that the unknown criteria for choosing the date and there was a bit of a problem in locating this sect. “Perhaps try looking through the dark section in the library?” That was a large repository of nonsense according to word of mouth. Unfortunately, it also seemed like the only option left, too. Good thing she was a fast reader.
