Introduction: Silver in the Night
The clouds mask the moonlight like a veil being blown by the wind; making the blades flash intermittently. The shadow approaches the temple and gets past the meditating master. The relics from faraway lands are of no interest to her but the door at the side of the kitchen is. She goes in and faces a corridor sprinkled with laser barriers but she came prepared. Using her kamas as a frame she places a foldable mirror in the beams and makes herself a convenient entrance. Using the right tools for the job is essential. Doors flank her after every laser barrier but she’s only interested in one, at the end.
The elaborate lock doesn’t resist her tiny but focused explosive. The door reveals a chamber where a sarcophagus is kept. She opens it and takes enough pictures to satisfy the most demanding journalist. Footsteps come from the corridor. Someone must’ve heard her and obviously noticed the marks left by the deflected lasers. She takes a smoke grenade and lets it roll towards the corridor. The lasers are turned off and a multitude of monks pour in; all kinds of weapons in hand. In her borrowed cloak she effortlessly slides away. Outside she quickens her steps but only the glinting blades that occasionally escape towards the moonlight hint at her true identity. Soon it’s too late: the night has already swallowed the shadow.
