Introduction: An Old Forest
“These forests are cursed, your Majesty. They say the Huntress is always on the prowl. Ready to pounce on whoever dares defy her dominion.” “Nonsense, no one can rival my strength.” The Sultan made a few slashes on the grass and roots of a nearby, ancient tree with a smirk. “I can make this tree fall with one strike.” “I, I don’t think that would be a good idea, your Majesty.” “I will show you a good idea.”
The Sultan spinned with his sword and fell a handful of trees in seconds. “Now that’s a power to be feared.” “Your majesty, the forest… listen.” They listened and heard nothing, absolutely nothing. After the agonising cries of the falling trees the entire forest became silent. They could only hear leaves flutter and a few old branches creak under the caresses of a gentle breeze. “We should leave, you Majesty, immediately.”
“Don’t be a coward, there’s nothing to fear…” The javelin whistled and went straight through the right thigh of the Sultan. He groaned, grabbed the stick and removed it from his leg, then quickly bandaged it with a strip of cloth ripped from his shirt. “If they want a fight they found one.” Amidst the sound of his feet stomping on the ground as he ran away he could hear the horrible screams of the Sultan in the distance. For a man of no fear the Sultan was expressing colours of pain he didn’t know existed. It brought to mind the death of those trees so whimsically cut down. Their pain turned into a symphony, a twisted dark symphony like those old branches creaking with the gentle breeze.
