“Captain! The mast… it’s burning.” “Then spit on it. Cannons: fire again!” The sailors tried with their buckets to douse the fire but it was a titanic endeavour for the handful of concerned souls. The rest were as mad with bloodlust as the Captain. No one escapes from the Captain; even if the vessel is faster, sturdier and better armed. The challenge only added spice to the hunt taste. “Another round of fire! Burn them!”
The cannons screamed death but the old ship was no match for such a vessel. It didn’t take long for the mast to break and fall. It killed no one, almost, but it surely halted the chase. The vessel got lost in the horizon, practically mocking the Captain as he stared at it with bloodshot eyes. “We will repair, we will improve this old cask and we will find them. Each and every one of them and I will have them all walk the plank into a volcano!”
The Captain was passionate but also very practical when his mind was set on something. In a few months the renovations had transformed the old ship into a nautical wonder. When she left port the Captain grinned with venom in his lips: “Now I will find you and I will introduce my blade to your throats.” No one dared point towards the impracticalities of the plan. The Captain would find a good solution, though. That was why he remained Captain.
