Introduction: A Siren’s Musings
The waters are still this evening. They look dark but they’ve always been deep and mysterious. How many have relied on it for their advantage. Some use the sea to test their mettle, their skill and their resistance. It’s interesting to see how much effort they put into it yet none turn their head back to see what they’ve left behind once their glory is attained. Seldom is the effort theirs alone, the oceans always pay a price too.
There’s worse of course. There’re those that use the waters to hide their secrets. They hope the depths will swallow what they don’t want to be found. They think that another mystery won’t matter in an ocean of unending unknown. They are wrong. The ocean doesn’t conceal anything: it’s all there for the taking. You just need to be smart, skilful enough to get it. Just be mindful not to destroy that which gives you prizes.
With animals that’s never a problem. They know how to keep a balance. They instinctively take what they need and don’t destroy that which sustains them. Other animals, the rational ones, could learn from it but they think they are too high up to see so low. As always, the more intelligent can be the most foolish. Perhaps one day they will learn that all their technology has to be a part of nature. It came from it and to it will return. Perhaps, but for now they simply can’t listen to my song. Let’s hope they do before it’s too late.
