Introduction: A Book That Looks into You
“This book in the darkness will give you the light.” It glows dimly, inviting, beckoning for human touch, human comprehension. It wants all of your understanding, all your attention and to twist you into a shadow with its unquenchable hunger. I told him as much but did I listen to the warnings when it was my turn? I too delved into dark corners of the earth where I only found an evil so deep that it changed me forever. I was once a man and now I walk between realities with warnings that fall on deaf ears. Serves me well it could be said.
I digress, he took the book, obviously, a famed mage like himself couldn’t pass the chance of deepening his knowledge of the arcane. If only it would’ve been just that. The book offered knowledge but there was always another cryptic question to be answered later. So vast, so unmeasurable and so dangerous. He kept reading, not even his faithful friends could pry him from those cursed pages. Those damned lines devoured him, consumed his mind and drained his body of life. It gave him power, like he never dreamed about, but, like it happened to me, at a price we would’ve never paid willingly.
Now his friends roam the lands searching for a way of saving him. I don’t know if there’s salvation once you fall into the abyss. I’d like to think so, it’d give me some hope. Perhaps there’s a way to save him, and even to save me, but chances are that it’s within those cursed pages, in those damned lines that only speak malice and offer death. Well, I’m not exactly alive anymore so, perhaps a small peek wouldn’t hurt; I’m past pain now. Incredible, I never knew, is this true? How could this be? And this? Amazing! More.
