Introduction: A Manor Forward
With effort and in a low pace the manor is recovering from the events of many unspeakable nights where the sanity of the Lord was put to the test. Where there aftereffects? Most probably but he would never admit it. He never had a penchant for collection but now he values butterflies as treasures. He likes the Monarch the most: a special specimen that has wings yet seems half-stuck in the larva phase; as if the chrysalis stage had been incomplete. “A most remarkable specimen.” he would present thus to guests.
He would’ve never invited a flamboyant paladin to the manor but here he is looking with eyes empty of comprehension and full of appreciation from that which is rare. “An impressive item. Truly deserving of a fine collector like yourself and a great admirer as myself!” In the past the Lord would’ve reached for his axe, in the present he seemed much more civilized. Perhaps it was the creation of acquaintances and relationships to keep the manor recovering. Perhaps it was the unexplainable events that have carved their mark deep in the Lord’s psyche. Perhaps he was just bored.
Not everything was bizarre, at least to those that knew the Lord for years, some acquaintances seemed very reasonable. Somehow the Lord had got into contact with a fabled mechanic beyond borders. Not only had his mechanical devices improved the manor but also the Lord had caught a knack for understanding the machines and even making some small repairs to them. Nothing fancy, of course, but it was novel to see the Lord putting his hands to work and also to concentrate and even enjoy some work. “This device is marvellous. I’ll go see if there’s anything similar in store.” Would be the usual cue for him to leave and make some purchases and, admittedly, it was money well spent. Perhaps he was growing, after all.
