How to Manage a Losing Streak – StrategyZero
Dec 142011

How do you manage a losing streak? I have no definite answer to that question. I have to admit that I’m not a very good player, or in other words I’m a bad player. I lose a lot so I have some experience on losing and experimenting losing streaks. We are all different so I don’t think there’s only one answer to this question. Nonetheless, I can tell about my experience and you may find something useful.

I’ve had a few losing streaks but the worst happened a few days ago in League of Legends. No matter which champion, role or tactic I used I kept losing. It seemed to have no end, until it ended. I was obviously very curious to know why I was able to finally win after such a disastrous experience; it was almost ten matches of losses.

Looking back I noticed some things about my play-style that needed to change but I think that more important than analysing my in-game performance was my attitude towards losing. I get angry like anybody else and losing is hardly something that makes me happy. Regardless, even after the final loss in the streak I was cool. I simply chose not to worry about it and enjoy playing the game.

The one advice I can give

If I had to tell you one thing to do to break a losing streak it would be to relax and not to worry. It happens, you may be doing poorly, the other team may be great or your team may not be good enough. No matter, a game is not worth raging about. After all it’s for fun, if you are not having fun you are missing the whole point.

If you are a professional I can understand you getting angry. However, you should be enjoying your job as well. If you aren’t maybe you should think about your career choice. The point I want to make is that there are real tragedies in life that are worth raging and crying about. It’s not necessary to add more to such a complete package.

Don’t ruin your game

I know that remaining calm after so many losses isn’t easily achieved. I don’t know if I could have done it in the past. Yet, I think that I can do it in the future. Because, as much as I don’t want to lose I don’t want to ruin the game for the other players; and I don’t want to ruin it for me. I want to enjoy this game. If you are raging you aren’t enjoying, however you can enjoy yourself while losing.

That might have sounded masochistic; still, a good game is not equivalent to a won game. Additionally, if you are cool you can also learn from your mistakes and are more accepting to receiving and even giving advice. A calm attitude makes the game better and I think we can agree that we all want a healthier and more enjoyable community to make this game a nicer experience.

If all you need now is to improve to be a better player you can check some articles on the build advice section. Understanding the game helps making better decisions!
