Introduction: The Palace of Ice
The Scout wiped the snow from over her and entered the ice palace. She walked forward through a long empty corridor of tall blue walls that played with light coming from the sides; making the most fabulous and exotic shapes. It was a long path but the way here had been longer. She finally reached tall double doors that easily gave way with a gentle push. In the immensity of the room she could see the Frost Queen at the end. They greeted with a look but it took a while until the Scout’s weary feel took her before the Queen. “Be welcome, scout, what can I do for you?”
Her voice echoed and boomed throughout the room giving her gentle tone a latent power of unknown proportions. “I come to ask your aid, Frost Queen.” “Come with me.” She rose and walked the Scout through a door besides the throne. There was a corridor with many doors on the sides. The Queen opened the first one on the right and invited the Scout in. “Rest and we’ll talk tomorrow.” The Scout didn’t have the energy to argue; not that it would’ve been wise to. She fell on the golden bed covered in red, velvet sheets and lost herself to many dreams.
By the morning there was a plate with a steaming beverage, exotic fruits and slices of bread; the latter she found to be quite sweet and spotted with raisins. After gathering her belongings she came out of the room to find a long corridor before her with tall icy walls, a corridor she easily recognised. She walked forward, without other choice than to return to her room. At the end, the familiar double doors of the throne room met her. She opened them with a slight push and there was the Frost Queen sitting on her ice throne.
As she approached the Queen smiled. When she arrived before her the Queen said: “The marauders won’t longer bother you or any other creature. You are free to stay for as long as you want or return to your people. You are welcome any time you like. I only ask you share your maps and adventures in this book.” She received the book, of covers framed in blue ice which never melted, thanked the Frost Queen with reverence and left.
On it she always wrote about her experiences knowing that one day she would need to return it to the Queen. Years went by and the eager scout had become seasoned and a veteran with many exploits to her name. She always kept the book by her side and zealously wrote on it. It had never run out of pages, it always opened in the last page she had written and she could always go back thousands of pages to the very first line she ever wrote: “Today I met the Frost Queen in her palace of ice.”
