Introduction: Fire and Ice Meet
“Team: deploy!” “Time before arrival?” “Two minutes, sixteen seconds.” The transport burned through the atmosphere until it stopped with powerful bursts of fire on a charred circle in the middle of a street. Such destruction could’ve received the attention of someone concerned, had it not been completely eclipsed by the devastation that was the clash of fire and ice. They crashed against each other generating clouds of vapour that melted buildings; as if they weren’t enough on their own to level a city. Of course, one disaster wouldn’t have been enough.
The Mystic of the East had been clear: “When fire and ice meet, follow the rivers of lava and the paths of snow until the sources can come full circle.” Well, perhaps not that clear. The first part was evident but the second was as obscure as any of her advice. No surprise there: she just couldn’t give a straight answer. Distracted by the discussion of what philosophical diatribe the Mystic would conjure at the offer of a drink they didn’t notice the apparition of more streams of fire and ice. Things were getting heated up and down, literally.
The duo split and each followed the many rivers. Step by step, little by little, frustration after frustration the rivers joined together into one single origin each. Each origin was a glowing mass of fire and ice, respectively. Inside, there lay the problem, was someone trapped; their screams seemed to say so. Rescue? That was one of their specialties. In moments they freed the hostages and the rivers weakened, just. The hostages walked away from the rivers and they followed. After a while they met and then fire and ice clashed again. It was going to be a long day, it seemed.
