“It’s quite the sight from up here, Base.” “Roger, stick to the plan Captain.” “Always on duty.” The Astronaut pushed himself forward and slid in the void towards the antenna. He opened the panel and checked the numbers: they were all wrong. Not a single one was correct which meant a lot of work. “We’ve got a problem, Base.” “Explain Captain.” “Numbers are wrong. Will have to recalibrate everything.” “Roger, proceed.” It was definitely going to take a while and it wasn’t the kind of activity anyone was looking forward to. The view, though, was excellent.
It took hours but in the end, the Astronaut managed to calibrate the device. He closed the panel and wondered: “Let’s hope nothing hits the antenna again. I’m not going to spend another afternoon with my hands inputting numbers.” He looked at the antenna and it was moving, that was a good change. “All numbers ready, check if everything’s good to go, Base.” “Roger, checking. Readings look good. You can return to a nice cup of tea Captain.” “I know someone that’d rather a good coffee but tea sounds great. Returning to Base.” The day seemed to be over so now a good drink was the sole thing in his mind.
He was almost ready to enter the Base when we saw the light. It was more like a flash, a blink of incandescence that passed by at an unbelievable speed. “Wow, Base, what was that?” “No idea Captain, return to Base. We’ll monitor the situation.” He couldn’t, not because anything got in his way but his eyes couldn’t break free from the spot of light that travelled through the atmosphere and ignited further with a stronger light. It was enveloped in flames and, though far, he could swear it had the shape of a bird. “Looks like a phoenix…” “What was that Captain.?” “Nothing, that thing looks like a bird. Returning to base now.” He entered and rushed to the observatory as fast as he could. It was gone by now but there was footage of its passing and it was incredible: it did look like a bird in flames.
