Festive Maokai
Festive Maokai Splash Art Festive Maokai Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Maokai as a Christmas tree.
Model: Minor model changes for Maokai and moderate model changes for his saplings.td>
Particles: New particles for Vengeful Maelstrom.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: The setting is that of a cottage drawn in a simple but appealing style. Multiple objects add depth to the setting: presents on the floor, Christmas decorations over the fireplace, a Snowmerdinger portrait on the wall and a hot snack along a letter over a table. Maokai looks good with a coarse but solid wood body and sapling. However, the decorations on him appear mute and hardly stand out. All things considered, it’s a nice splash art with good general quality. Unfortunately, the lack of contrast flattens all elements and prevents them from shining on their own.

Conclusion: Festive Maokai is a thorough disappointment that is good only as an idea. Maokai as a Christmas tree is definitely an interesting and suitable concept. Nonetheless, when the execution simply throws some decorations over the treant and calls it a day a problem is evident. A look to the model makes obvious that it’s simply Classic Maokai crudely resembling a Christmas tree. To say that the result is lacklustre is an understatement as the skin feels like an afterthought rushed at the last minute. From the half-boxed saplings on his hand to the dull star on his head the implementation is as dim as it is unimaginative. In fact, the impression the skin gives is so bad that the particles added to Vengeful Maelstrom seem like an excuse. In conclusion, Festive Maokai is a bright idea extinguished by an execution that forgot what a quality product is supposed to be.

Snowmerdinger

Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Heimerdinger as a snowman with sledge turrets.
Model: New model for Heimerdinger, his tools and his turrets.
Particles: New candy bar for his auto-attack.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: The background is mostly a sky covered by flying snow. There is a hint of an ice tower or fortress but not much is actually shown. The turrets are a fitting addition to the portrayal but their shots are all black in-game. Heimerdinger is well depicted with appropriate use of light but the shading seems a little rough. On the whole, it’s a passable splash art that feels like one third of a picture.

Conclusion: Snowmerdinger is quite basic in its execution: it re-models Heimerdinger, his tools and his turrets. The result isn’t bad yet not remarkable either. The irregular snow body is well designed but the look doesn’t strike as very comical overall. Additionally, the turrets are cleverly designed as cannon gifts over little sledges. Besides, they also have different colours that are chosen at random. All things considered, Snowmerdinger is a good skin but it doesn’t do much to take advantage of its seasonal nature.

Mistletoe LeBlanc

Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: LeBlanc in a sexy dress, along fur cape and boots, wielding a staff with mistletoe and a lantern.
Model: New model for LeBlanc and her staff.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: No new animations.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: The background barely shows trees and a path covered by snow. The dark colours and lack of contrast summed to the blurry lines make the setting lacklustre. LeBlanc looks alright lighting her way with some magic and her staff lamp. The dress is well depicted and shaded and her body looks good. To sum up, a fine portrayal of LeBlanc backed by a mess of a background.

Conclusion: Mistletoe LeBlanc is a skin that does only one thing but very well: give a high quality model to LeBlanc. The clear outline and detailed textures give a satisfying pristine aesthetic to her. The dress may be a bit too revealing but considering the mistletoe theme it’s not illogical. Besides, the lantern-staff wrapped in mistletoe is a fine addition that further develops the theme. Unfortunately, that’s all the skins offers. The model is great looking but as a seasonal skin it deserves something else to make it stand out. In conclusion, a nice re-model for LeBlanc but a disappointing skin overall.

Toy Soldier Gangplank
Toy Soldier Gangplank Splash Art Toy Soldier Gangplank Model
Category: Legacy
Price: 975 RP
Concept: Gangplank as a plastic toy soldier.
Model: New model for Gangplank.
Particles: No new particles.
Animations: New joke, taunt, walking and death animation.
Sounds: No new sounds.
Splash Art: A cartoon style is quite fitting and understandable but it seems to hurt the piece more than help it. The background is appropriate yet unexciting and devoid of interesting elements; even though the drawn ship and pirate flag are apt references. Gangplank appears well shaded but his proportions are amiss: the body parts don’t have believable sizes; even for a toy. In the end, the piece serves as a portrayal but doesn’t generate interest in the look.
Rating: Star clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZeroStar clip art used in skin reviews at StrategyZero
Conclusion: Toy Soldier Gangplank is a skin that appears interesting in concept but ends up lacklustre in practice. As a life-sized toy soldier gangplank loses part of the little toy charm. Furthermore, the design is rather crude for a finely crafted toy; despite the antique feel. At least, the new walking animation tries to round the concept yet in the end the skin isn’t attractive. Therefore, as a joke it isn’t funny and as an outfit for a fierce buccaneer it’s just unfitting. In the end, Toy Soldier Gangplank is valuable to collectors, due to its reduced availability, or toy fanatics.

Conclusion

It’s a pity to see that this Snowdown has left skins that mostly let down. On the one hand, Mistletoe LeBlanc has a finely made model but nothing else. On the other hand, Festive Maokai, Snowmerdinger and Toy Soldier Gangplank have new particles, turrets or animation to show, respectively, but their models aren’t the best they could be.

Therefore, you can either choose a skin that does only one thing but very well or others that provide more but suffer from uneven quality. In terms of general quality, they all stand near but Snowmerdinger may be the best choice due to a less limited concept and acceptable execution. Alternatively, Mistletoe LeBlanc provides the most refined and appealing looks but just that.
