Introduction: The Moon and the Phoenix
The moonlight reflected on her face like a caress from a loving mother. It was no surprise: she was her daughter, after all. Always staring at this world of mortals had made her want to be a mother and she managed to; details belong to another tale. Even though she always looked on her from above being the daughter of the Moon came with some responsibilities only she could fulfil. A forest in flames wasn’t one of those but being full of moonflowers she knew that mother would be grateful for stopping the fire from spreading further.
She walked between the flames under the watchful protection of the Moon. In a clear there was a sort of cocoon of fire spreading flames all around like a midnight Sun. She approached with a strong ray of moonlight shielding her from the fire. She touched the cocoon and it started to crack like an egg. Wings spread and heat and flames intensified: it was obviously the rebirth of a phoenix. She walked backwards, half taken aback by the revelations and half pushed backwards by the hand of her protective mother. She watched the bird turning from fire to flesh.
Once the transition was done the flames shivered in place and stopped. Then they regressed and returned to the bird leaving every object, plant, animal and earth rejuvenated, as if reborn too. The bird looked at her and there was an unspoken recognition between beings as much terrene as supernatural. She stood there and saw the phoenix rise up into the night sky and leave east passing right in front of her mother. “That was an interesting birth. Was mine like that mother?” The Moon seemed to glint. “I see, we’ll just hope we see the phoenix again then. Seems like we could be good friends.” The Moon glinted again. “Me too, Mom.”
