Introduction: Wonderful Day at the Beach
For a relaxing afternoon at the beach the weather was simply perfect. No one could’ve imagined a clearer sky, a bluer sea or more golden sands. A fresh drink in hand only made it all the more perfect. It was something so ideal that one could’ve seen a mermaid basking under the sunlight by the shore and it wouldn’t have seemed out of place in the magic of the moment. All around the water ebbed and flowed gently with waves that seemed painted in white ink over a blue canvas. What could break this perfect spell?
It had to be something of epic proportions. A giant monster rising from the depths of the sea probably qualified. It was something monumental; horribly so. Only the sea was nearby and that was a little bit of luck. Being close only added detail to the monstrous shapes that could be seen from the beach. It was something odd which, at least, called the attention of the people resting there. Given the distance they were probably safe. That wasn’t the case for the galactic traveller caught by one of the pincers.
It was a dire situation, that much was obvious, and help from the witnesses in the distance was out of the question. It wasn’t the best of ideas but with the armour slowly giving in perhaps it was time to try something, innovative. The traveller pressed some buttons on his vambrace and a thin, white ray of light fell on him. The crustacean barely noticed that something was amiss but soon it was unavoidable.
The chitin started to burn and, as the ray widened, the monster’s body was progressively seared. In seconds the traveller disappeared between circles of light. A part of the monster had disintegrated and another, an incomplete and further deformed body, fell into the water. Thankfully, the distance saved the beachgoers from the nasty details. Still, as far as spectacle went it wasn’t bad to add to the impending sunset which would only crown a wonderful day at the beach.
