Introduction: The Price of Escape
We march, always forward to the top, where the light waits for us. The world is furious, mountains walk and burn like animalistic volcanoes. Even the fearless barbarian hordes have had to leave their lands and they do so quickly and without fighting. They only seek and ask for safe passage, away, far away, from the mountains. There is, there always is, a small group of rebels that have assembled in some sort of resistance but, what chance do a handful of youths with more courage than sense stand against a living mountain?
No, we need to get to the top. Gosh, even the barbarians have joined the march. This is probably our last and only chance to escape; at least with our lives. The light is nearer, it’s warm, and that’s a change, a good change: it doesn’t burn. It’s waiting for us, watching, staring and seeing all that there is within ourselves. Then, it decides our destination, our destiny. It’s not a mere matter of fate. The eye sees, every action done we’ll be accountable for so each of us have carved our own paths. Of course, you can turn back and fight. Some do, you’ll see how it goes for them.
Ah, here’s the light! At long last solace and peace. I float, I feel so light and carefree. I don’t feel any pain, any worry, I am free… The light intensifies and consumes the body. The next one steps forward for their turn to leave, to disappear forever from this cursed lands. The rebels say this is madness. That everyone should stay and fight. That this is no different than jumping off a cliff. After all, who knows what happens once the light is done with you? They don’t want to risk it. They like what’s clear to see: a good weapon and a target. Perhaps they are afraid of salvation or perhaps we are fools. I don’t know, I don’t know where I am now either and I don’t care: I’m in peace. It’s so peaceful here, so empty, but so peaceful…
