Introduction: The Sun and the Forest
The Sun looks down on the canopy of the forest. It could be said that there’s mystery beyond the leaves. What could be lurking within the shadows that spread between branches? This is an ancient forest and it has seen life end and begin anew in a never-ending cycle of despair and hope. The Sun looks and wonders and the forest simply stands high, keeping its secrets for itself. Will the Sun ever be able to look beyond? The forest may not allow it but fate isn’t always in our hands.
Sometimes a fire breaks out and the trees burn in anguish. Their wood is consumed and the stories these trees knew get lost. A sort of clearing forms and the Sun takes a peek at the ground and the ash left behind. Truth be told, it’s not a pretty sight and not what the Sun would like either. All the mystery is lost and what remains is nothing but a shadow of the glory that can be imagined among the clouds. The forest is in pain and, without words, the Sun suffers.
How quaint that when the Sun hides behind a thick, grey mantle of clouds the forest is at its happiest. Rain pours, the forest gleams with refreshed vigour and the Sun unsuccessfully struggles to get a glimpse of the celebration below. Sometimes, it can. The clouds heed its call and open up a bit for forest and Sun to join together in the revelry of life. It doesn’t always happen and that only makes it all the more special. What a wonderful sight when heavens and land share the blessing of life.
