Introduction: Temporal Rift
A barrage of bullets, a rain of explosives and the devastation is incredible to wide open eyes. In minutes the machine flattens blocks and eliminates all signs of civilization. “What’s that thing? Where did it come from?” “We have to do something.” “How can we even get near that thing?” The Royal Guard had already lost too many. Their muskets and swords were of no use against the machine. They were responsible for the security of the city but so far they had barely been able to evacuate civilians. “Not to be redundant but things are getting worse: it’s coming this way.”
They made sure that everyone got away and they took cover behind portions of walls. They weren’t very useful against the piercing fire but they did conceal them. The machine walked slowly towards them, it was still firing. It spread destruction all around then stopped. A crack appeared on the air, blue and grey, it glowed and then some sort of warrior came out as if it were a door or gate. “What’s that supposed to be?” It had the head, no, the body like a crocodile and wielded an enormous serrated blade.
The creature looked at the machine and dashed forward. The shots didn’t pierce its armour. It slashed and sliced the machine into small pieces. Then another crack opened and the creature threw the machine parts through it and jumped in before it disappeared. The guards looked at each other and slowly came out of their hiding places. They looked around and it seemed like a large invasion force had just destroyed part of the city. “What do we do now, Captain?” “Attend the injured, we’ll investigate this later. Someone’s bound to know what happened here.” “Perhaps at the university.” “Perhaps, first things first.”
