Introduction: Snow Sight
Snow kept falling, good, it’d erase his footprints. He reached an elevation, not too high as it wasn’t necessary, but good enough for his intentions. First part done. He placed the arrow and pulled the string. Not a sound was made but that wouldn’t be the only telling sign. He needed to uncover the sight; any reflection and he would be lost. The moonless night was quiet and sombre but he hesitated for a moment before sliding the cover. It was impossible to get over this shaky feeling, the only thing you could do is get used to it; such a nuisance. Breathing deeply he aimed carefully. His lungs filled and stopped moving, his fingers let go and the arrow whistled gently through the air.
The tip hit the guard squarely on the chest and bounced back into the floor. The man staggered and, dazzled, picked up the projectile. In an instant a colourless gas escaped from the blunt tip. Everybody in the room slowly faded into a slumber and so the coast was clear. The bowman approached with care, checking twice in his approach that the sight was covered; you just couldn’t be too careful. The door was no problem. They didn’t even have a complex lock on it, who would be mad enough to try to get into this installation? Regardless, he was already copying all the information he could find. There was only seconds left. He picked the gas-arrow and left the room. Second part finished.
From a distance he observed the guard and other operators wake up. They wouldn’t remember anything but would probably have a headache for the night; literally too. Under the reassuring protection of the snowflakes he made his way back to the main road. Once there he looked like a common person on a hunting expedition, one who got lost. In a moment he was travelling back to town thanks to a passing helping hand. Just a little more to get to base and then, third part of the job done.
