Introduction: Lights on the Sand
“What’s that?” She sat up on the sand and looked at the distance. It would be the other end of the half circle that the coast made where she saw a spectacle of light. She continued watching and deduced that it was no conventional spectacle. There were blasts of light from above while some creatures scampered and dodged. Another figure, dark yet appealing in its movements, appeared and disappeared in flurries of spikes. It seemed to be a battle but there was something not quite right with it all.
The Sun started to set and she didn’t realise how long she’s been staring at this show. She grabbed her things and started walking towards the sea. She got her feet wet on the shore but all the time was unable to take her eyes off the battle. With sunlight dimming the lights from the sky seemed more intense and they reflected on the creatures and spikes making the spectacle all the more attractive. She really couldn’t understand her fascination with it but perhaps there wasn’t much to it: it was quite eye-catching.
After a while the Sun finally dipped behind the horizon and darkness enveloped the beach with a sprinkle of stars on the sky from whence blasts repeatedly fell on the sand. There was no Moon and she wasn’t the only one staring at the battle. Just as all sunlight left the battle stopped. A glowing figure on the sky seemed to salute the two on the sand, one surrounded by creatures the other by spikes, and they each left. They vanished in plain sight without anyone able to point in which direction they had gone. It was a spectacle that was the talk of the town the following day. She wondered if she would see it again at dusk.
