Introduction: Work Among Stars
“Cold day, eh?” said the Captain. His companion said nothing and simply kept on working on the new panel. “I never get tired of the view, you know? If there’s one thing that compensates for all the trouble of being out here it’s that.” His companion finished setting the panel and got to work on the wiring. “There’s a lot to see out here. You’ve got galaxies, comets, planets and star. Yes, they are part of galaxies, I know, you understand what I’m getting to: there’re new worlds all around us and we are mostly oblivious to their existence. Crazy, eh?”
After the wiring was complete it was time to set up the controls. “Look there, that’s the Dark Rider. What a wonderful galaxy. Apparently it was some sort of fancy scientist that read too much fiction who came up with the name. Not a bad name but a bit on the extravagant.” The controls ready it was time to calibrate the panel. “It’s not as crazy a name as the Blood Knight. Now that one must’ve come from a really weird trip. Weirder that this I tell you. Anyway, at least they are memorable names. Not something boring with a number afterwards. What do you say?”
Calibration was complete and it was time to return to the station and test. With their suits off the ratio of size didn’t really change so that the Captain could barely look around his companion to see how the panel was performing. “A bit to the side, please. Good, so everything all right?” The companion nodded. “Well, it was a good day’s work. I’ll go to my room and get some rest. You should rest too. We did a lot so we deserve some time off. If something is about to explode give me a call, right? See you.” The Captain vanished through corridors leaving the companion staring with half-closed eyes. “Next time, I’ll be the one looking at work; from the comfort of this chair.” He reclined and smiled.
