Introduction: A Simple Solution
“Tick, tock, your time is up. The night became red.” The Archduke saw the blade glint under the moonlight, then red splattered all around and finally, nothing. The hunt for the Mad Hat killer had been going on for some time but never before had such a high profile target been chosen. It wasn’t clear how and why the victims were chosen, it seemed to follow the adventures of the Mad Hatter, but one thing was evident: he was escalating. More daring and defiant the murders had turned from quasi-accidental to gruesome affairs.
It was unusual to find in this day and age someone that preferred to go old school in choice of weapons, but the killer was one. Never a firearm or anything remotely technological was used: only the simple but effective edge of a keen blade. They hoped to be closing in on him but the truth was that he had not been identified or was there any trace to lead to his capture. He seemed to disappear in thin air. Nowhere to be seen a trap was in order.
The lure was placed and the Rocket Unit ready to answer. If he was to continue escalating then killing the almighty Queen of Hearts would be irresistible. After all, he was in the process of taking care of the court members. Under a dark night sky the Queen saw the blade glint before her. She smiled and took from under her ample skirt a rocket launcher: “Surprise!”; some people from the Rocket Unit had always been like that. The blast sent the bits of the Mad Hat killer flying and spread them all over the street; it wasn’t a pretty sight. The forensics team certainly didn’t appreciate the extra work but many surely did. The city was safe, for now.
